Am I being unreasonable?

My SIL keeps showing my 9 month old baby her tongue bar and encouraging her to play with it. I was so taken aback and didn’t know how to ask her to stop but the more I think on it the more disgusting I find it and really need to nip it in the bud. Has anybody been in a similar predicament?

thanks

What do you mean play with it?

Like encouraging her to touch her tongue bar (in her mouth!)

SIL I would rather you didn’t encourage that.

Encouraging her to touch it is gross. But nothing wrong with showing it, it’s fascinating for tiny children!

If your little one is like mine, SIL will stop the minute she tugs on the tongue bar!

I can see why that seems odd. My baby loves shoving her hand in anyone’s mouth, but it’s not something we ever tried to encourage.

I think all you can do is politely tell SIL you’d rather she didn’t encourage your baby to stick her hand in her mouth, due to germs/other people not liking it. But if your SIL laughs it off, I personally would ignore it. Baby will grow out of the game soon!

It's kind of gross, but I don't know if I'd say anything.
