Playing music whilst sleeping

Our 4yo has always had music or an audiobook on to fall asleep and more recently she’s starting asking for it back on if she wakes up in the night. It’s quick and easy to do but I’m finding it disruptive to my sleep as it’s hard for me to fall back asleep after I’ve got up and put the music back on.

I’ve considered just looping the card so it plays all night but I can’t find any research about whether this would be bad for brain development etc?! Does anyone have an scientific / professional input? It’s on a low sound setting and speaker is well away from her bed so I’m not worried about the safety or hearing concerns. Just seems like playing the same 10 songs for 13 hours straight might have implications!? I have no idea!!

It's fine and very common. Can't link to studies as I read about 5 years ago, but looked into this then - I have 4 children, their bedtimes/nap times don't align so quiet background noise covers household noise nicely

My 8 year old has audio books on CD and a cheap amazon CD player. He turns it back on himself if he needs it. He likes the background noise, if I had known this I would have got a lot more sleep when he was a baby instead of unsuccessfully trying to get him to sleep in silence!!

If it's Yoto cards you mean, can I ask how you get them to loop?

My 3 year old has Yoto stories to fall asleep to and then I switch it to their nighttime radio before I go to bed myself. I don't see a problem with it.

Ah! The nighttime radio is a good idea, I hadn’t thought of that!

To get the cards to repeat and not stop you press this! It appears when the card is playing x

@Moomin2020

Brilliant! Thank you ☺️

And yes, just loop the card or put the nighttime radio on. Whatever lets everyone get some proper rest.

My children all have iPads or phones where they listen to Spotify sleep podcasts or Calm and it's on quietly all night. I'm the same. I have either music very quietly or a podcast on to continually play through the night.
