my 4-yr-old boy still insists on sitting on the loo to do a wee but all his friends seem to be doing stand-ups now. Should we encourage him to stand - is he unusually old to still be sitting?

Does it really matter?
He is probably preparing himself for sitting there for hours with the paper

DS is 4.4 and generally sits down to do a wee. When a friend came round this week I discovered DS is perfectly capable of standing up to do a wee as the pair of them weed simultaneously into the toilet .

I really wouldn't worry about it - I am sure that he will stand up if there is a need for it (ie when using a urinal) and sitting down is less likely to involve wee going everywhere .

Don't worry. My ds wee'd for ages sitting down until suddenly, one day, he announced he was a big boy and stood up at the toilet. He will sort it out in his own way .
