Dandruff or Nitts?

My daughter has autism so she can’t say whether it’s been itchy or not. It didn’t look like this a few days ago. We wash and brush her hair regularly and I dry it for her.

Dandruff or Nitts?

Hard to tell from the photo but I can't imagine a lice infestation would get that bad in a few days. Google what headlice look like then search her hair if she will let you. Otherwise, have you changed shampoo etc.? Has the weather changed drastically where you are?

Edit: typo

Very tricky to tell from the photo but I can’t see any lice on the lighter areas of the scalp and it would be one hell of an outbreak if it didn’t look anything like this a couple of days ago.
Have you seen her scratching? Will she let you have a thorough check and use a nit comb?

Nits tend to stick to the hair more than dandruff. Do the white bits come off the hair easily?

Do you have a nitty gritty comb? You could give it a quick comb to see if there are any live ones. If those are nits then you will have a lot of lice and it will be quickly obvious. Easiest thing to do is to stick her in the bath, wet hair and slather on loads of conditioner to make the comb go through smoothly. The comb will also lift a lot of the dandruff out!

I have personally never seen nits visibly in the hair - and my eldest gets nits a lot as she is friends with the two girls who have a near constant infestation. 😩 Get a nitty gritty comb and comb out with conditioner.

To have that many eggs, there would definitely be live adults walking/crawling around.

You need to get up really close and examine a single hair to see if an egg is actually sticking on to it. They are a bit oval shaped, and cling on from the narrow end.

Do the white bits come off the hair easily? Nits are stuck to the hair shaft. Have you tried using a nit comb to see if you can find any lice? For all that to be nit cases then she'd have loads of lice too. Maybe just a very flaky scalp instead

Nits have little black dots of poo. If you combine out with a fine toothed comb you'll easily see them.

Looks like dandruff to me. I was very prone to it as a child/teenager until I found the right products for me - now I hardly get any.

Vosene (I think that's how you spell it) do a good anti-dandruff shampoo for kids. I wouldn't touch Head & Shoulders, I found it really irritating on my very sensitive scalp.
