Are training pants a good idea?

I have just started potty training my DS and it's going surprisingly well. We have gone from absolute refusal to even look at a potty to suddenly wanting to wear big boy pants and use the potty, almost overnight. We have been doing it for a week now, and only had two accidents, that is with going to nursery, out shopping and even soft play! However we are going on a car journey this weekend and wanted some thoughts on whether training pants were a good idea or not? I don't to confuse him as he is now really into wearing big boy pants and the bright bots training pants are bigger and thicker than this. Any suggestions or tips?

I used them for my DD at night time and just referred to them as 'night time pants' she didn't get confused but then she was nearly 3. tbh I think really only you can tell if they will confuse him, my DD accepted we wore thicker pants at times but that they were still 'big girl pants'.

You can get a protective layer than you can put on a car seat in case of an accident - can't for the life of me remember what it is called though. Might be worth looking into (if you have the time) if you think the training pants might confuse him.
