Anyone else feel guilty and annoyed at the same time or is it just me??

My partner and I both work full time in the UK. Our children have been at nursery/school since 9 month old.

Because we work we are not on any benefits.
We pay for childcare and always have done.
My friend, doesn’t want to work as wants to be close to her child and have the special bond. But as she is on benefits. She gets the house, money, additional childcare during school holidays etc all for free!!!
I feel guilty I have let my babies down by working and trying to provide for them and not being that SAH mummy.
But she makes me angry that at the end of paying out bills we have the same money left to live on.

AIBU to tell her that I don’t want her bragging that she spends more time with her child than I do.

You are role modelling the self sufficient, contributors to society you want your children to be.

Everyone does what they think is best. Decide what you think is best for your children and yourself, do that, and be confident in your choice. It’s important to zoom out and think very long term- about retirement, university, paying off mortgages etc etc. There may be differences in those things between you and your friend that you haven’t taken into account. x

l don’t feel guilty at all. You don’t need to be with DC 24/7 to have a special bond.

Part of the reason why I work is because I believe it sets them a good example that women can be parents and have a fulfilling career.
