Starting secondary organisation tips/ ideas

Ds is starting secondary and I'm trying to help him get organized. I have a desk in his room and have cleared his closet so his uniform and tie hang in there and he can put his school bag in the bottom with his pe kit. Have bought spare trainers and spare tie and spare pe kit. Any other organisation tips?

I'm trying to help him change his room a bit to be more organized so any recommendations for homework stations or organizers appreciated. Bonus for pics! Want to be inspired and set him up with a system that he can stick to so less stress for everyone!

Get him to write out a timetable and stick it somewhere in his room so he knows what he needs to pack/bring each day.

Get him into the routine of packing his bag the night before.

Get him a noticeboard so he has somewhere specific to keep any important loose pieces of paper that he is given (the timetable can go on here too).

  • timetable and current half term dates on the fridge. Maybe diff colours for lessons needing equipment. add all his commitments including some specific. Homework time
  • pack his bag the night before
  • Make a set time (before tea?) to check his homework which will be either diary or online based. Teach him how to list and tick off tasks with the software (kids always forget to tick done and it’s a right pain chasing them). Talk about planning ahead for evening or weekend activities too

Ooh - and go through his books weekly for the first term making sure he sticks in sheets etc properly. When he gets older books are his best revision guide and they need to be in order not sheets stuffed at the back or lost in his bag, and they should be UNFOLDED as far as possible. I do not believe students undo all the folds they make to fit sheets in tiny little spaces, so they’re essentially pointless after doing it if you’re not going to look back

this is why I use hole punch and treasury tags in my books
