After a blanket denial by other parents to recognise cheese strings (dd's party), I'll start with:
Ribena
processed cheese slices
coke for children
readymeals for children

and we are vegetarian.
Aside from that, dig in

and i won't buy battery chickens / eggs or cod.

Psychomum5 · 18/04/2008 10:14

I will not buy any type of tinned meat......bluegh!!!

tinned pies (what's that all about?)

tinned pasta apart from hienz spaghetti hoops as DS2 will only eat them when poorly! I give in for him then.

pop tarts/fruit winders. why??

value meat.

value squash

cereals that aren;t brand names (but that is because I am a cereal snob)

chewy sweeties......but that makes me mean apparently.

and anything nice that I like but has milk in it meaning I cannot eat it......cos I AM mean then as I feel that psychodad and psychokiddies SHOULD support me in my allergies!!![mwhahahah

Nothing banned, but i do tend to only buy what i like.

So i only buy things like coke, curry if dh asks for them.

DD1 eats a veried diet so i don't mind the occasional processed food.

She went to a birthday party at MacDonalds a month ago where she eat chicken Nuggets (won't eat burgers) fruit bag (don'i like chips) and a fresh fruit drink and yes i did get some comments from the other mums.

Piffle · 18/04/2008 10:17

oh also only eat free range chicken/eggs
and butchered locally meat and fresh fish delivered on the day by Grimsby fish man.
Plus we eat a lot of vegetarian grub prob 4-5 x a week

wannaBe · 18/04/2008 10:22

microwave omelettes? I had no idea they existed.

taipo · 18/04/2008 10:27

I try to avoid:

artificial sweeteners
hydrogenated oils

juuule · 18/04/2008 10:31

Nothing banned but try to avoid some things.
Artificial sweeteners
Fizzy drinks and cordials.

boobiestoosaggy · 18/04/2008 11:05

we dont let the kids have any fizzy drinks in the house coz it makes them hyper, any kind of sweets tho they can have chocolate!
any food from aldi coz i got food poisoning from something i ate from there.

oiFoiF · 18/04/2008 11:07

I dont ban anything

you will all rue the day you know

oiFoiF · 18/04/2008 11:09

mind you some of the things mentioned are very sensible to ban....

OrmIrian · 18/04/2008 11:17

I ban most magazines and soap operas. DD's bans all pink and girly stuff. DH bans mention of Man U. DS would like to ban girls (even DD) and DS#2 has taken against Ratatouille. I realise none of these are foodstuffs. But I was trying to show that we, as a family, have some discernment.

morethanmum · 18/04/2008 11:21

I tried to ban sweets but ds was allergic to milk, so gave in for him as he couldn't eat chocolate and now they all eat them (except for gelatine type ones).
Microwave omelettes! But you can do scarmbled eggs in a microwave, is it the same but flatter?

OP posts:
Mrspanic · 18/04/2008 11:22

tinned meat
ribena, actually all cordial type drinks
coke
processed cheese
supermarket meat
chicken nuggets etc

schneebly · 18/04/2008 11:25

Nothing is banned completely but there are things that I just dont buy. We do have a fair amount of crap to be honest but it is mostly for Dh and I - the kids eat far healthier and we try to keep the crap stuff until they are in bed so we are not setting a bad example They do sometimes have a frozen pizza or chicken dippers but I always check for the ones with least evil ingredients.

Blu · 18/04/2008 11:27

Lots of things I never buy because I think they are horrid, unethical and / or nutritionally unhelpful, but actual 'bans' are:

anything containing hydrogenated fat
ditto artificial sweetners.

Acinonyx · 18/04/2008 11:45

Lots of things we don't buy or wouldn't even think of buying, but as a general rule no:

fizzy drinks
artificial sweeteners
non-organic meat
produce from sad chickens
processed foods with major exceptions (dd's beloved cheese triangles, salami, dh & dd love sausages )
sweets or chocolate unless it's Xmas, bday or Easter
try to resist crisps (my major weakness)
ready-made sauces or meals (adults sometimes get a bought pie and I sometimes have a WW)

passionately hate celery

wouldn't be without fish fingers for dd though...

MaureenMLove · 18/04/2008 11:48

Mine! Touch my food - feel my fork!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 18/04/2008 11:51

Intensely farmed produce
Kitkats & Nestle cereal, coffee etc
Plastic cheese
Made-up puddings in plastic pots
Squirty cream
Black pudding or rollmops (they being the Devils work)
'Childrens food' in fun shapes

I wouldn't shop at Tesco or Harrods.

I buy Coke from Waitrose.

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 11:52

oh i love fish fingers. so does dd. they're great. has someone banned them? lawks.

Mamazon · 18/04/2008 11:53

Anything with rocket fuel in them.
some manufactors like to hide it in and get around the label by calling them something like E401....but they dont fool me

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 11:53

mmmmmmm black pudding... mmmmmm rollmops. are you mad, duchess? (have you had that baby yet btw? you must be about to pop. )

FAWKEOFF · 18/04/2008 11:56

i dont know what the omlette is like...it had cheese ozzing out of the middle....it looked truly vile....DP hasnt bought them since....what i couldnt understand is that by the time the microwave took to cook it i could have made him a fresh one, they sell them in tesco and asda

Marne · 18/04/2008 12:02

Nothing realy

Only dh drinks fizzy drinks (i dont let the kids)

I allow my kids to eat most things in moderation.

We have crisps and chocolate but they dont eat them evry day (maybe twice a week)

We have smiles once a week.

I dont like fruit shoots (they only have them if we are out and there's nothing else they like)

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 18/04/2008 12:02

Duchess, I'm with you on the Tescos thing. Wouldn't shop there if my life depended on it. Would even prefer Asda or Kwik Save.

Banned foods in my house are

Plastic cheese
Anything with 'hydrogenated' in the ingredents
Fruit juices in un-refrigerated cartons
Sunny Delight (Over my cold, lifeless body)
Cheapo meat
Non Free Range eggs
Pot Noodles
Tinned curry/stew etc
Most ready-meals (all I can taste are the additives)

I am not overly precious about food, but have noticed my shopping getting more and more ponce-tastic lately. I just like nice stuff, want my family to eat nice stuff and refuse to buy shit. Especially shit from Tescos.
