My daughter (5) really loves the Isadora Moon series of books, she is half vampire and half fairy. The illustrations to text ratio is great for this age.

We have also recently purchased a series called Kitty which is a girl with cat like superhero powers from what I can gather. We haven't started it yet but looks fab.

Jill Tomlinson animal books are brilliant, so well written, interesting and funny. Mine loved me reading them at around those ages, think we finished them when my eldest was 7\8
