Advice on stopping my toddler from randomly biting or hitting?

Overall my little boy has such a sweet calming nature. His an only child. However at least once a day he will randomly either bite me or hit me.
Today he was at soft play with Dad. And he has hit 1 child and attempted to bite another. My partner immediately removed him, told him off. And got him to apologise to both children. You can feel the anger from the other parent understandably. My partner walked out after the second attempt. At home, we make him stand in the naughty corner and then he will come back and apologise.
And we both explain… ‘this is not nice, we do not hit or bite anybody. We have to be kind and gentle’ to which he will touch my face and say gentle mommy or nice mommy.

I just don’t know what to do? It’s so unpredictable and random. 9 times out of 10 he plays lovely and shares, wants to hug all the children. And then randomly acts out.

I think you are managing it well. Make sure you're close by him when he's playing with other children so that you can prevent where possible. Otherwise be consistent and accept he's 2. He will stop doing it. Some kids bite. It's nothing you've done wrong.
