Potty training with terry nappies

I've been told DC in terry nappies potty train earlier, because they are more aware of being wet or dirty. Does anyone have first hand experience of this?

Hi

My first son wore terry nappies and I didn't even think to try and train him until 2 and 11 months. I had put him in pants once and he wet them so I figured he wasn't ready. What did I know. He got the hang of what he had to do fairly quickly but we would have accidents while out and it was a good 6 months before I could go out without spare clothes for him. (He didn't always need them though.)

DD also had cloth nappies but slightly different ones. She asked for pants at 17 months and after 3 attempts (my fault) was dry before 2 in the day.

DS2 had different washable nappies again and he was dry in the day before 2 1/2.

HTH a bit.

Thanks for that. DS2 will be 3 in August and is nowhere near being potty trained. He wears terry nappies and won't tell me when he's done a wee or poo, even when I ask him. I can sometimes tell when he's filled his nappy if he stops what he's doing or clutches himself. It would just be nice if he could tell me when he wants to go. I suppose he'll get the hang of it one day.

Have just potty trained ds2 who wore reuseables at just past his second birthday. He has had a couple of accidents (mostly poos) but got it really quickly but he couldn't tell me before we started that he needed to go. It's only once we started he started asking for the potty or toilet or whatever. Might be worth having a nappy free day and just seeing how you get on as he might surprise you!

ds trained at 20 months but I think thats a combination of cloth and putting him on the potty from 10 months just to 'catch' anything between nappy changes, I think it helped him make the connection faster, we did ott praise if he did anything and he actually got to see what wee and poo looks like so he knew what it was all about, hth and good luck x

He will get there. It is all biological. Babies can't crawl until their bodies work for them and being dry is the same. try not to worry. He won't be the only 3 year old still in nappies.

With DS1 we went throught the ELC catalogue and picked out a toy for a fiver. we stuck the pic of it on a star chart and he got a star for every wee. Once he had enough stars (day 3) we went and got his binoculars. I did start off giving him a choc button for every wee but it is amazing how many dribbles you can squeeze out when choc is at stake!!
