Children inside cars

Would you say leaving a 5 years old locked inside a car (in his car seat) while you go to pay for fuel is ok? My husband has done that and I just find it unacceptable. He said our son didn't want to go out of the car and he had to pay for the petrol and it was only a few minutes.
I was furious but now wondering what others think, as he is making me feel like I'm overreacting

Of course I leave mine in the car. And so does the rest of the world.

A garage forecourt is no place for children. I've never seen seen anyone take their kids in with them. Ever.

This
I don't take either of mine out and I've never seen anyone else do it either. You can literally see the car from the petrol station window

This used to stress me when my DC were small. I actually think it is probably safer leaving them in the car than it is to try and walk DC/DCs across the forecourt. I think I tried to pay at the pump, get fuel when I didn't have DCs or rush in to quickly pay.

I think you have been harsh towards to your DH especially if DC was strapped into car seat and could be seen at all times.

Definitely not.
I wouldn’t leave a child in a car for any length of time whatsoever.

Not even while you pay for petrol? What planet are you on?

I would either fill at a ‘pay at pump’ type petrol station or fill the car when they weren’t with me.
I had four children and absolutely never left them in the car.

Are you in the UK?
I'm quite amazed. In all my 15 years of driving I have never once seen anyone remove a child to take them into the petrol station with them. My friend who worked for a petrol station for many years also said she never seen it either.
I can only assume in countries where there's a higher rate of car theft?

As I said, in the absence of ‘pay at pump’ I would put petrol in the car when they weren’t with me.

I didn’t say I took them with me into the petrol station to pay.

Yes, I’m in the UK.

I once saw a parent take her dc out of the car to pay for fuel and it looked a right stressful nightmare. The baby was in its car seat on the floor whilst she was coaxing an unwilling toddler and an older child out of the car and then had to try and get them all, and herself, across to the shop to pay. I just thought she was making it more difficult for herself and would have taken half the time if she'd have just nipped in and out, leaving them there.

I think parents on here seem an awful lot more anxious and nervous than the parents I meet and know in real life. Everything could lead to a catastrophe on here; irl everyone just gets on with it.

Can't deal with people disagreeing with you, more like.

beautifultrama · 18/08/2024 21:33

@az33 what's ignorant about disagreeing with you?
Yeah I feel for your family if this is what you're like in real life.

It's giving high school bully vibes.

If you didn't want opinions then why ask on here 😂😂
