Bald patch in Daughters hair after taking out holiday braid

My daughter has had in her holiday braid for about 5/6 weeks. I noticed it looked matted around the root so took it out this morning . The hair kind of ended up coming out in places. It wasn't a huge amount but she's left with a small bald patch. She's 8. The patch also looks a little pink. I feel awful. I should have taken it out after the first week. I've also been brushing her hair and tying it back with the braid in so that probably caused more stress. And she did pull on it occasionally. Just hoping this is a common thing and it grows back. Has anyone else had this experience. Lesson learned.

Did you cut it off
or cut the bottom end and patiently unwind it all

My dd had them for many summers and never had an issue, maybe your dd's was a bit tight in the 1st place ?

I spent 20 mins unraveling it but a lot of her hair at the root was no longer attached but matted and stuck in some of the strands that were still attached. I'm probably over reacting. My sister has alopecia and at one point lost all her hair and it didn't grow back for 10 years. But that's a completely different scenario and there was no cause to her hair loss though we think it was autoimmune. I have health anxiety and panic about everything. Thanks so much for your response.

does she have long or heavy hair ? or very fine hair ?
or lots of beads on the end of the plait ?

maybe it was just too heavy for her ( tho she would not have realised that )

Mid length and I would say fine but quite dry and frizzy. She had lovely curls as a toddler but it straightened as she got older. There were beads on the end and often as I brushed her hair I would kind of brush the braid too which probably pulled on it as well. She has very tatty hair as it's dry and she's a messy eater. I tend to only wash it once or twice a week. You can only see the bald patch if I part it a certain way so I'm trying to talk myself down and give it time to sort itself out. Her wee friend got one done on holiday too but hers came out fine. Anyways it's not the end of the world. Just freaked me out a bit this morning. Didn't mention it to my daughter so she doesn't have a clue. She just wants another braid put in! 😂🙈
