6 month old not having milk!

Anyone got any tips with making baby gain weight?

My 6 month old has always been petite but today we got him weighed and he is gaining at a slower rate. I wondered whether he had just gone off of his formula? He has a cold but I’m worried.

HV recommended:

  1. different bottle (he’s on MAM size 2 is slow but size 3 he chokes)
  2. try one bottle of a different formula a day for taste (currently on Hipp and has been for couple months)
  3. offer feeds little and often (used to do 6-7oz per bottle now lucky if he takes 4oz)
  4. try 2 meals of solids a day

He also has trouble with poo and is on laxido everyday. I’ve been to GP for CMPA and they said no it isn’t.

Has anyone else had this with their LO? It’s like he’s completely gone off milk, I’m just so worried so would be good to hear if anyone else has been through this

Are you getting dirty into him with food, like yougurt? And yes, I’d be increasing food.

Trying too, trying to focus on milk as keep getting told that's the main source of nutrients and calories for first year. He just isn't hungry :(

What makes you think it's cmpa and what makes the GP think it isn't

In my experience it is very hit and mix whether GPs have the knowledge to understand cmpa fully and miss the children that don't have the super obvious symptoms. My daughters gp didn't know the difference between lactose intolerance and cmpa. Telling me children that react to breastmilk get very poorly. This is true for lactose intolerance but not cmpa. The GP I found most helpful had her own cmpa child and added the caveat of "this is from my personal experience not my training as a GP" to most of her advice.

My daughter struggled with weight gain between 7 and 13 months. During which time she only gained 200g and she barely had a few mouthfuls of solid food a day. She only started gaining weight again when she was drinking her usual amount of formula and having 3 meals a day. She was on 18oz of formula a day until 2 in order to gain weight.

She has allergies and reflux and both impact her diet. The reflux either makes her comfort feed and she went to 25+Oz overnight and screaming for more or sent her off feeds all together and during one bleak period her breast feeds went down to 5-10 second feeds during and no more than 2 minutes total!
