What is classes as a temperature for nursery?
My 3 year old was up throughout the night quite a bit with a temperature of 38.5-39.5. It has been coming down with calpol but then after a nap went back up to 39.3.
Gave calpol at 1pm it’s now 5.20pm so the calpol has worn off and it’s 37.5.
It hasn’t dropped below 37.5 all day.
Shes been okay ish in her self apart from when it was really hot when she just woke up.

Ive kept her off nursery today because didn’t know how she’d be. If she carries on staying around the 37.5 mark is this ok for her to go to nursery all being well in her self? Trying to think about tomorrow

I'd be wary that the Calpol has worn off, I always use the 6 hour mark as a benchmark.

37.5 is a normal temp. Anything about 37.7 is classed as a temperature. I would send her in if all OK and no temp overnight.

Sounds like the only thing keeping it down is the calpol so I would personally keep her off nursery if you can

What is your nursery's rule? Mine is 24 hours clear of any temp so i would personally be keeping her off tomorrow

I would keep her off. It's only the call keeping it down.

Snacksgalore · 08/08/2024 17:55

37.5 is a raised temperature, 37.7 is a fever and 39.5 is a high fever.

She had a temp of 39.3 at nap time. That is a high fever. How long ago was nap time? She must feel terrible. I would be keeping her at home tomorrow.

I think as tomorrow as Friday it’s probably best just to be off, you know they’ll be better for Monday at least.

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 08/08/2024 18:03

You give paracetamol 4-6 hourly it's calpol that's keeping the temperature at the 37.5 mark and even that is an elevated temperature.
Your child is symptomatic of a fever when calpol wears off. Therefore shouldn't go to nursery.

A temp of 37.5 is enough to make anyone feel poorly.

Irrespective of whether she is infectious she should be at home

PoopedAndScooped · 08/08/2024 18:05

When did she last have meds?

37.5 is normal temp.
