I am currently 25 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Today I looked after my nephew for a few hours and accidentally bumped his knee when getting him out of a high chair, he cried instantly and it bruised. I haven’t stopped crying about it to the point where I’ve been dry heaving. I feel so terrible and now I am having all these doubts about whether or not I can really do this parenting thing.
does anyone have any words of advice. I literally feel so so low because of this.

Please be aware that when you have your baby they will:
Bump their head and some point and you will be devastated rush them to an and e.
Roll off the bed. You will kick yourself for not watching them.
Drink:eat something that they ideally wouldn't.
Cut their nails too short and you will feel awful.
The list goes on. You can't beat yourself up (she says as she continually beats herself up)

It's hard but it's normal, your nephews fine - just a little bump. Deep breaths xx

At least you didn't wallop his head on the door frame.

I've done that to both my babies a few times. Just misjudged the distance. They're fine. Kids are designed to take a bit of damage.

Me too! Several times. Why do babies grow so fast and require repeated readjustment of walking through doorways?! I still feel awful about it many years later and often apologise to my kids about it half joking but half serious too. I thought it was just me this happened to.

OP, you'll be a lovely and kind mum, you're emotions are all over the place right now with the pregnancy, your little nephew is fine.

My mum and I have both done this with my youngest, you try and pull him out of his high chair and he gets stuck where his thighs meet the tray, it left awful bruises on his upper thighs. Mum was so upset when she did it as the bruises were awful. I told her not to worry at all. I did the same thing a week later and again the bruises were awful. We removed the tray from the high chair and just pushed it against the table instead and now it’s a little chair as he’s a toddler and you could change the legs. It’s a great high chair apart from this issue. Never had it with any other high chair.

Anyway I’m waffling on, echoing what everyone else has said these things happen and are purely accidents. The first time I looked after my nephew I bashed his head on the car as I lifted him into AND out of his car seat, I was mortified and felt terrible. I also had been a parent for over ten years at this point so I wasn’t even inexperienced haha it just happens. I fell down the stairs while holding my eldest when he was 6 weeks old, I was bawling my eyes out in A&E, the doctors were so lovely to me and thankfully he was absolutely fine.

Slammed my 3 year olds fingers in the car door. Made worse by his stoic little 'it's ok mummy. Don't cry'.

He's 30 now.
