What’s my toddler having for lunch?

Please, tell me what to give him for lunch. I’m fed up of the constant thought for what to feed him every day and the same old rotation of options. So please, tell me what to give my 20m old for lunch so I don’t have to think about it just for today 😀

(kindly request no “have what you’re having”, or “leftovers” answers)

Pasta?
sandwich?
wrap?
sushi rolls (my ds loves cucumber maki lol)
pitta and hummus
Beans on toast
eggy bread

i get what you mean. I find lunch the hardest meal of the day!

And a tip for any toddlers that don’t want sandwiches, cut up into fairly small squares and put in an empty crisp packet.

Worked a treat with mine when they were little 😊

What are your normal options? Ours are:

Veggie sausages and beans on toast
Scrambled tofu and toast
Lentil soup
PBJ sandwiches
Baked potato and beans
Cheeze toasties

Often served with soya yoghurt and fruit.

Devilsmommy · 06/08/2024 07:54

@Tiredeveryday 🤣 might try that one. Mine will eat toast but not bread. Though he'll eat brioche and croissant 🤷 I'm sure he's fucking with me🤣🤣

Tiredeveryday · 06/08/2024 07:58

@Devilsmommy 😂🤣, honestly it works!

I would show them the packet of unopened crisps and say something along the lines of a special lunch today, get them all excited.

Then disappear into the kitchen, empty the crisps into a bowl and fill with the sandwich.

Easy lunch sorted - and I got to eat the crisps after 😁😂

Ham and cream cheese wraps cut into pinwheels

Tuna pasta

Beans on toast with scrambled egg

Sandwich, cucumber sticks and yoghurt

Mini egg muffins (just mix egg milk and cheese and pop in a greased muffin tin) with veg sticks or beans

Easy pizza (pitta bread with tomato sauce and cheese baked in the oven until melted)

Crackers or breadsticks with cheese, chopped grapes, apple and hummus

That’s genius!! :)

TheGlitterFairy · 06/08/2024 09:05

And to add - mine will be having gyoza and avocado maki today as I fancy Japanese!

OMG my toddler would be raging if I gave him a crisp packet that didn't have crisps in it! I vote for scrambled eggs, which would be my go-to toddler lunch if my DS would actually eat them at home as opposed to at nursery where he gobbles them up. Or crumpets with peanut butter, and some cucumber and melon slices on the side.

Make your own dips and crackers
Lazy hummus by blitzing a tin of chicken peas with a little oil and water
Frozen peas and mint
Mixed pulses
Any veg leftovers
Any of above with some salad and cheese and turn into a burrito and grill until the wrap is crusty

A muffin tin is good for making single portion shepherds pie.

I have one of those too @Devilsmommy eats toast happily for breakfast. I make a sandwich for lunch and it's "I don't like bread". She's even a bit funny about a toasted sandwich too.

Jacket potato with beans and cheese.
Eggs of some sort - dippy, scrambled, omelette, hard boiled.
Cheese on toast or pizza toast.
Eggy bread (savoury french toast).
Soup and crackers.
Random bits of bread/crackers/cheese/ham.
All with some cucumber and tomatoes or apple slices or whatever.

NuffSaidSam · 06/08/2024 10:35

Eggy bread with a bit of fruit and veg on the side and a yoghurt.

Bread and butter, with some mini sausages/bits of chicken/cheese on the side, some chopped up fruit and veg.

Scrambled eggs with toast, avocado and tomatoes on the side.

Jacket potato with beans and cheese.

Tuna sweetcorn pasta

Packed lunch - sandwiches or wraps, veg sticks, piece of fruit and a few crisps.

Fishfingers, pesto rice and some veg

Egg fried rice

How good I have a list of some new stuff to try. We ended up swimming this morning and had a bit of a rush on to get lunch before he fell asleep so he’s had a very quick meal of cracks with cream cheese and ham with about 600 raspberries and strawberry’s.

he’s having a bit of a weird phase and not eating bread so toast, sandwiches etc all out the window. He won’t eat crumpets or muffins. Oh and he seems to have gone off eggs but I’ve never given him eggy bread so might try that tomorrow.

Also to the poster who’s child won’t eat at home what they will tuck away at nursery - I feel you. Soooo annoying! Veggie fingers don’t last a second at nursery yet at home won’t even touch them. 😫

Rice, defrosted frozen prawns, defrosted frozen peas. That got me out of a hole a few times at that age!
