9 Month Old growling/straining

Absolutely losing my mind and hoping someone has experienced this before!

I have a 9 month old who makes loud, straining noises all day. He poos 1-2 times a day and its not related to bowel movements, so have ruled out constipation.

For context, he has a very healthy appetite for solids and takes 2x 8oz bottles of formula. He is prescribed neocate and has a cows milk/soya allergy. He takes omeprazole (5mg - wondering if the dose needs upped?) for silent reflux and we're currently battling moderate eczema which is particularly bad on his face. He's 9.5kg and not yet crawling.

It's getting embarrassing taking him out places because he makes this loud, throaty, straining sound and scowls as though he is angry! Face will go bright red and he often coughs afterwards because he is hurting his throat. Each noise can last up to 5 seconds and he will do several at a time.

I'm losing my mind at what it could be?! And starting to panic that maybe there is something medically wrong or he is in pain. He has been doing this on and off as long as I can remember but in the last few weeks it has become really constant and intolerable!

I've honestly never heard another baby make this noise and it's driving me insane. Any suggestions what it could be?

Sorry, should be 10mg of omeprazole!

Is he doing other normal (related to communication) stuff? Clapping hands, copying other sounds? Giving things if you ask him eg give me your cup?

He's not quite clapping his hands or waving, but is copying some sounds etc. I do think he is a bit behind with babbling - he won't do the usual mama, baba, gaga. He had a review with the health visitor a few days ago and she was happy with where he was at with his communication.

He’s most likely experimenting with sounds he can make if everything else is normal, it sounds like just a phase. He’ll grow out of it but probably straight into another embarrassing phase like chucking his juice cup in public, then giggling

Hey! Does your little one still do this and have you found out the reason? My 9 month old is doing exactly the same 😑

Yes still doing it I'm afraid. I increased the dose of his silent reflux meds in case it was that bothering him again, not sure if it has worked we are still trialling it. The only thing I've noticed is he does it more when he's tried/hungry like he's learned to use it as a way of communicating. But that's as far as I've got with it unfortunately.

I did speak to our health visitor and she wasn't concerned.
