Did nursery improve your child's speech

My daughter (just turned 3) can say single words and some 3/4 words sentences but it's certainly not fluid and consistent. I tried private speech therapy recently but was so disappointed - it's what we had been doing a year ago! She starts nursery in September - I would love some positive stories/ advice! X

No, nursery did not improve my child's speech. However, it improved naturally with age. Hope you find something that works for you and your DD.

Nursery 1 slow development of speech but since potential issues with the nursery have been highlighted
Nursery 2 in 2 months my daughter went from communicating with pointing to speaking in 2-3 word sentences. When we spoke to the HV she said that this nursery was very proactive in putting language support in place often before an issue has been raised. It probably coincided with her starting to build language anyway and came after a chaotic life for 3 months after no reliable childcare as our nursery closed with short notice just before we moved house.

The right nursery will make an improvement but I wouldn't say it is a given that it will give an improvement. It will come down to the child, the other children in the room, the staff, the approach of the nursery, the direction of the wind and other multiple moving parts that you hope come together in a positive way!

No Nursery has not improved speech. But doing a speech therapy course myself has helped her understanding and engagement.

Yes ours did for our 3 year old significantly. He started at 2 and made a huge leap with speech.

Same as pp nursery didn't help but just improved naturally with age. DS will be 4 in October and sounds exactly like your daughter. He is slowly improving but it's a long and slow process

Nursery didn't help or hinder any of my dc speech. Although at ds5's preschool had a speech therapist who came in twice a week to do speech therapy with the children who needed it so that was useful.

Yes it really helped my son. He started at 2.
