9 month old 5am wake ups

I'm aware we've had it very lucky so far but my baby has been a great sleeper since around 3 months, sleeping through the night near enough every night. The last few weeks he's started waking at 5am every day no matter what time he goes to bed. He's having 2/3 naps a day totalling around 3 and half hours. Am I being unreasonable to want a bit of a later get up?! Does he need less day time sleep?

This is just normal, plus it’s light early and hot. We just co-slept and I snoozed while keeping them mostly asleep in a safe space next to me.

Agree that it's fairly normal behaviour. If I remember correctly The No Cry Sleep Solution has some tips on dealing with early wakings.

Just wondering if transitioning to two naps a day would help too?

Thank you I'll have a look. I've tried 2 naps but with waking at 5 he's ready for another nap around 7.30

That's quite a lot of daytime sleep for his age, so it wouldn't be surprising if it's leading to early mornings. I'd also try transitioning to two naps. I'd both try stretching his wake windows slightly and accepting that there's likely to be some early bedtimes (and yes, still early wakes) whilst he adjusts. You should be able to gradually rotate the timings around to something that suits you better, though. You could also try a 15-20 minute catnap for the last nap of the day to help with the transition.
