DD 2years and 3 months
Wants to sit on potty, toilet, wipe, flush wash hands pull up nappies and pants etc, BUT does not actually pass anything at all.

So I have taught her to pull up pants etc, read her books on potty training.

So yesterday, I took her nappy off her and told her to poo and wee in potty/toilet.

Within minutes, she had pooed in her trousers, and then wee'd 3 times later that afternoon. She was visiby upset, that she had soiled herself, and clearly had no sensation that she was doing it.

My gut instinct is that she is not ready, but I want to hear from mor experienced mums, who think that this is normal and part of the training.

I dont want to continue and upset her if she is not ready and undermine her confidence iysiwm?

why not try her bare bottomed thats how I did both ds and dd1 and will do dd2.
DS was 2.3yrs and told me he didnt like nappies
DD1 was 2 the week before and had been telling me for a while as she was weeing or pooing but I wasnt ready to train..lol

We usually do about 2 days completely bare bummed in the house then bring in knickers afterwards.

I'd give her another go when you were sure that she didn't need a poo - that was possibly what upset her the most.

she might get lucky with a wee on the pot and then you'll be on your way!

but go with your instinct if you continue to think she's not ready, otherwise you'll drive each other mad.

my dd started before she was 2 but took a long time to be reliably dry. I know other kids who didn't train till after 3.

agree with bare-bumming it!

I'm just thinking about potty training DD2 who is 2y3m. DD1 told me at 2 that she wanted big girl pants and to sit on the potty. It took over a year for her to be completely dry but I think she has an extremely weak bladder as she goes more than any other child I know. Poos have always been fine.

DD2 has shown no interest in the potty, she knows exactly what it's for, watched DD1 in the toilet all the time. Tells me when she's done a poo and that she needs changed. She's a law unto herself on most things though and if she doesn't want to do something she won't do it.

I'm going to try next month with just pants on that she will pick especially and see how it goes. Am completely dreading it.

sorry forgot to mention, I have tried the bare bum approach too, as she has nappy rash at the moment, so we are spending loads of time with bare bum. she still wee-ed

I think today's toddlers, thanks to super absorbent nappies, don't know what it's like to feel wet so can find the sensation a bit alarming - unlike anyone who was a terry toweling infant of the 70s/80s!

I don't necessarily think your dd doesn't know she's having a wee but she doesn't know the repercussions of having a wee i.e. feeling wet and uncomfortable.

Your dd is the same in age and readiness as ds was when we toilet trained him. The first two days were the worst (again, similar accident rate to yours) and then the accidents gradually reduced so that by days 8-10 he was consistently dry with the very occasional accident. We were very "oh dear, never mind" if he had an accident, "next time tell mummy if you think you want a wee wee".

Personally I'd stick with it as you've done one of the hardest days with probably only a few more like this to go.

do agree first couple of days are a nightmare as they arent quite used to it..I went through sooo much kitchen roll even though DD1 was more than ready. Yet she still weed about 10 times first day but by afternoon had done about 3 wees on the potty..my thread will be around here somewhere..but by day 3 she was out of day and night nappies[her choice not mine belief me] and has had one accident in the 4mths since
