I was wondering if any of you could possibly let me know what you consider to be the advantages/disadvantages of power point presentations please? I am having real trouble thinking up things and my evaluation sounds and looks pretty rubbish with the stupidity I am spouting. Its that time of night.

Well, the advantages of power point is that it can be e-mailed out to other people, wheras OHPs can't?

They are bright & can use pictures etc wheras you can't with OHPs?

Erm....

open powerpoint, add new slide to add a slide, right click on mouse & chose slide layout to chose your layout. You can use text box (bottom left) to insert text. Insert to add clip art etc. Click right on any words or pic & chose custom animation to add entrance, exit techniques.

You need to have a play around really

Dont makt the special effects too whizzy (you know words swirling around the screen)
it looks unprofessional.

Yellow is a good background colour, with a blue font

Dont try to squeeze too much info onto one page

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY...
Dont just read what is on the powerpoint, it is there to support what you say (eg to show a graph when you are talking about certain statistics) not to be a script.

Powerpoints benefits:

You can add graphs, charts, images, audio and hyper links
Bright, colourful - cathes attention of audience

Disadvantages:

People often put too many words on a slide and simply read what is on slide

Audience sometimes read what is on slide and do not listen to presenter

Some fokl go over board with animations and effects and lose the message of presentation

DrNortherner · 13/04/2008 21:04

Vomit and yellow and blue

Sorry!

nell12 · 13/04/2008 21:06

Sorry if you don't like

It has been proven as the easiest colour combo to read at a distance and in any light condition.

Unfortunately it is not aesthetically pleasing

WallOfSilence · 13/04/2008 21:09

Thankyou girls!!

I personally don't like it when the writing comes in one letter at a time, it makes me dizzy...

And I don't like yellow, hurts my eyes.

I like white background with black writing or other way about...

Lazylou · 13/04/2008 21:16

No worries, WOS. I actually like this section because there is always someone around to help, even with silly queries like this!

Nell12 and DrNortherner, thanks for those tips. Could do with a few more if anyone has any ideas please?
