Using magnesium supplements for sleep-shy kids

4 yo has always been a poor sleep and still wakes regularly in night. Is now taking a long time to get to sleep and waking early. We all need more rest!
Has anyone used magnesium supplements and seen an improvement in sleep, or used and not had an improvement?
any recommendations for supplements that have worked are gratefully received! thanks

I used to give my terrible sleeper magnesium supplements, must admit I didn’t really see a difference, no harm in trying though. There are several forms of magnesium so make sure it’s a suitable one and easily absorbed (I believe skin creams are more absorbed than pills for many people?)

Liquid melatonin (prescribed) helped with getting to sleep, but not with night wakes or early waking which were more our issue. Slow release melatonin did bugger all.

What really helped was school - not so much reception (which was up and down) but year 1 things really seemed to improve. Sorry I know that’s a way off.

Assume you have done all the obvious like blackout blinds, no screens for 1hr before bed, bedtime routine, make sure room is good temperature etc etc.

Yes, tried magnesium tablets and a magnesium and lavender massage cream and they didn't work.

My DC is older than yours; has been on 1mg melatonin for around a year and it has helped immensely with getting to sleep. DC didn't have their tablet at 7.30 tonight because I was out and didn't remind them, and is now sitting up reading (almost 10pm where I am), having had a massive tantrum about not being able to get to sleep.
