What are the restrictions for rear facing?

So my son has been FF since 1. Don't come at me, I was uninformed and uneducated. It's only now with my second child that I understand the impacts of FF to early. Please don't send me hate messages for doing this. We all make mistakes.

I've been googling and trawling Mumsnet for the restrictions for RF. My son is 106cm and 23kg at 3.5 years old, I want to buy a rear facing seat that will fit him then I can move my daughter into it when she outgrows her infant seat but do not know which is best to get. We can have a fairly decent budget for this. Or has he 'outgrown' rear facing limits. He's a big lad, skinny but tall and weights a tonne

There are some that go up to 36kg, mostly sold by specialist retailers. We have a Besafe Stretch which I chose as it had good legroom. There are also some from Axkid. There is quite a bit of information on the ‘Extended Rear Facing’ Facebook group which is run by a group of car seat retailers.

Do you live near somewhere that sells Axkid minikid for you to try out? My youngest has been in it since outgrowing the infant carrier. Oldest used it before that and outgrew it by his 4th birthday, but he's incredibly tall and with a very long torso.

I'm not sure your oldest will be able to fit in it too much longer, although that will depend on if his height is in his legs or torso, but I believe it is one of the longer -lasting ones and will keep your younger child safe for a long time to come.

Alternatively, contact in car safety centre and see what they recommend!

Ideally you'd want a 125cm, 36kg seat like the Be Safe Stretch or an Axkid branded one.

These are all ERF seats, there's a great Facebook group for car seat safety advice.

If there is an independent car seat sales place near you head there for advice.

It used to be 25kgs but is now often 36kgs as in the great picture above.
