Baby Won’t Sleep

My baby is 5 weeks old tomorrow. She’s breastfed.

Shes barely slept all day, just wanted to nurse and kept waking up if I tried to put her down or even just left her on me she’d wake up after about 15 mins. I can tell she’s really tired. I haven’t been able to get her to sleep before without either her just falling asleep while BF or she’ll sleep in the carrier.

Shes fallen to sleep twice tonight but when I’ve transferred her to her snuzpod she’s started thrashing around so much that she’s woken herself up. Throwing her arms around and even hitting herself in the head/face, it was quite difficult to watch.

i don’t know what to do. I’m at my wits end today. I’m not even that tired I’m just hot and sticky and my back hurts and I need to not be holding her for a while, I just need a little break from her.

What can I do? Please don’t say swaddle her because our bedroom is 26C and all the sleep advice says she should just be wearing a vest only, no sleeping bag or blanket.

She's probably over tired and too warm, do you have a fan? The breeze combined with the white noise always helped mine in the summer months

It will be the heat, can you strip her down to a vest and get her to sleep in the pushchair? It's hard in this heat!

She’s not keen on her pram and I don’t have a fan sadly,

Ive just fed her for about 40 mins for her to fall asleep and do the same thing as soon as I put her down.

its started with some breeze here and while I was out of the room the temperature has dropped to 24 so I have 0.5 tog sleeping bag that you can close the arms off on with poppers so I’ve popped her in that but she seems like she hates it but I’ve put her back on. The boob and she’s not crying.

why is she thrashing like this though, I’m scared she’s having a seizure because my husband is epileptic but it’s only been when I’ve put her in the snuzpod she doesn’t do it in the day and I fed her laid down in our bed earlier in the day today and she didn’t do it then but I’ve remembered she did it last night too when she woke up in the night

she’s so tired I can see it in her face I don’t understand why she won’t let herself sleep

We’ve got baby in nappy only tonight with a light muslin tucked in over his legs, he was boiling so used a damp flannel to cool him down, he took far longer to settle tonight so think it must be the heat x sometimes when they thrash around they can be starting to self soothe x my ds likes to throw his legs up and down , he is three months

I know you said don't suggest swaddling but our little one was born in the middle of summer a few years ago, it was absolutely roasting all day and thoroughly sticky and extremely warm at night. We used these with a thin onesie/vest underneath.

She still wouldn't sleep though, after getting her to fall asleep on us after milk, she'd wake up pretty much straightaway when trying to put her down...

It turned out she was cold! A thin blanket over her plus the above and she slept!
