Feeling like my baby doesn't like me

My seven week old lights up when he sees his dad. With me hardly anything, a couple of smiles and gurgles if I sing his (my) favourite songs and make some faces. Otherwise he's looking around for something far more interesting.

It hurts a bit and I know it's utterly irrational to think he dislikes me. But it's just rubbish when I'm the one with him all day, changing nappies, making sure he's fed, washing bottles and clothes.

My understanding is that at that age they don't even view you (mum) as a separate entity... You're just a part of them as for as far as they are concerned. So it makes sense that dad is far more interesting 😂

My baby was exactly the same OP! I remember crying about it one day saying she didn't love me. She's now 20 months old and whilst she still has lots of laughter for daddy, I know for sure she loves me and it's me she wants when she's upset or frightened.
Believe me this is normal OP and he needs you and loves you.

This. You are one. It’s completely normal, don’t worry!

This will change as he gets older, don't you worry. Just you wait until he gives you cuddles and kisses himself, it's the best feeling in the world!

My little girl is the same, loves her daddy, will babble away to him, eyes lights up/ gets all excited when she sees him, me? I just make her food in my chest and generally makes sure shes happy clean and safe 🫤 😂, i think its because i spend alot of time with her so daddy is new n exciting face, i expect if i could go off all day i would get the excitement when i came home lol xx

Thanks everyone. It's reassuring that it's not just me who feels like this.

I'm taking comfort in the fact that he doesn't consider me separate yet to waste his cuteness on to build up a relationship, because it already exists.

Be reassured. You are your baby's entire world. The poster above is right. He sees himself as part of you.
Keep singing to him, chat away, make faces (poke your tongue out at him!) and give him time to respond. All this is helping you to bond.
It sounds like you're doing a great job.Flowers
