What to dress baby in?!

Hi all, my babies 8 weeks and has out grown some of their babygrows on the legs/feet, but still has lot of room in vests/leggings etc.

if I were to put my baby in leggings with a short sleeve vest, do they need 2 vests or just 1? We’ve got cardigans but they’re all chunky knit so not too sure if they’re too thick for this weather. But feel like 1 vest, leggings and socks is not enough?

I know the guidance is 1 extra layer than yourself, but not sure whether that would be an extra vest or a chunky knit cardigan in this situation!

TIA xx

There really isn't a rule and it will change depending on the weather each day. You'll get a feel for it. I used to like layering a long sleeve top over a short sleeve vest or short sleeve top over a long sleeve vest.

You will want a couple of lighter cardigans too. Might still need a blanket in the pram going out but be alert to it warming up as the day goes on.

It really is a matter of having to experiment and get the hang of it

Cut the feet off the baby grows and use socks.

Also the one layer more than you rule doesn’t apply if it’s really warm. In a heatwave you might want them just in a nappy!!

I think vest and leggings is fine with how the weather is in the uk right now . If a short sleeve vest you might want to invest in some lighter cardis.

Cut the feet off the baby grows and use socks.

This.

Also, look for baby grows without feet as this happens a lot. M&S and H&M have them.

If you're going with the leggings and a vest I think you still need another t shirt type layer.

Thanks everyone, I’ve got a couple of footless babygrows too which we’ve been using but they have so many vests and leggings so want to try and get some use out of those too - but am a FTM who overthinks everything 😂

Depends on the temperature where you are. A vest and leggings might be fine or you can put a long sleeved top on top of the vest. I also like light cotton cardigans for cooler times of day in summer. H&M sometimes have nice and cheap ones.

Put her in a vest and leggings with socks as her base layer, and then a top/tshirt if needed and cardigan on top if cold. You can also get footless onesies. I never liked the footed ones as my son would fit them in the body but the legs were always too long and dangling.

If it's cold/windy outside when she's in her pram use cellular blankets that can be easily layered/removed as needed.
