Visitors for 8 week old baby

My baby is 8 weeks old now. Till now I have kept the policy of not letting people who just travelled abroad visit our home. My husband’s brother and his wife just came from their trip to Spain. (We live in London btw). They are planning to come home tonight to watch the Euros. I am a bit excited for adult company. But worried about exposure of viruses to the baby. Should I let them come? Maybe keep the balcony door and windows open? Or better to not take risks?

I'm not sure what your concern is about Spain, over and above London? I don't see that they'd pose a bigger risk than people who travel on the tube every day, for example.

It's always a good idea to keep rooms ventilated anyway so I would do that but can you explain a little more about what your concerns are?

Life is a series of risks, of varying degrees. Kindly, I would say this situation is something most people would be quite comfortable with, and would judge your perceived risk as irrational.

I suppose it’s hangover from Covid days where any flight travel posed a higher risk.

@DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace you are right about it not being worse than tube travel.

Maybe I am being a bit paranoid.

There is a small risk from flight but as Dancing mentioned, travelling on the tube or a bus is likely to bring you into contact with lots of different people.

I go to an office most days and they are also great for spreading germs.

I would keep the room ventilated, but you don't have to go overboard and you can always ask your guests to wash their hands before they pick baby up. Most people opulent ask but if you've got a bit of health anxiety then it's fine to request it.

Presumably, you take your baby outside , into shops and other public spaces where they are exposed to other people's germs?
Relax, enjoy the company and watching England win 🤞🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Far more chance of getting something from a person visiting from the U.K….as we have a lower uptake of childhood immunisations than Spain at the moment

Far more likely to catch Covid from Uk visitor - rubbish summer weather has meant more indoor entertaining. Everyone in my circle from Cornwall to London seem to have been afflicted this summer!
I'd say the risks from a Spanish visitor were far smaller.

I don’t think travel from abroad makes any difference.

Dear Lord.

Don't forget too that some exposure to dirt and germs] can be very positive for babies.

If you are struggling with Health Anxiety since having your LO, I'd recommend talking to The Pandas Foundation.

I personally wouldn't let them visit if they had just traveled, my brother & SIL traveled to Glasgow from Ireland on a plane (obviously) for a concert very recently and caught Covid could of been the plane or concert who knows but thank god they didn't visit when they came back as my baby is 5 weeks.

Thanks everyone! I ended up inviting them and had a great time ❤Asked them to wash hands and sanitise. It’s a shame we lost the game though.
