Hi I'm a first Time mum My son is five months old and is breast fed The last couple weeks I'm not able to pump at all nothing is coming out .

I'm worried that my milk is drying up even though it shouldn't be as I'm still breastfeeding everyday . I'm really worried that he isn't going to be getting enough milk

Is my milk drying up or is this normal
Any advice would be appreciated thank you

I think this is normal. I found breastfeeding easy but really struggled with pumping. Does your son seem satisfied after a feed, wet nappies etc?

Pumping is no indication of your supply, your baby is much more efficient at removing milk than a pump ever will be.

Yeah he is having wet nappies hes just become more fussy with feeding . I spoke to the health Vistor she said it’s might be because he’s just getting bigger and wants to be more active

Okay thank you for your help . Before five months if I squeezed my boob milk would come out now it doesn’t . Also read online that there can be a milk decrease around five months

Your supply has regulated to suit your baby’s needs that’s why there is little excess, but that’s what it was, excess, he will get enough.

Pumping is much less effective than breastfeeding.

Some women can't pump at all but successfully breastfed.

As long as baby puts on weight and has wet and dirty nappies then baby is getting enough.

Please don't worry.

There can be a difference between pumping because you’re away from your baby and missing a feed and trying to pump extra in between feeding your baby 24/7.
You can also try looking at a picture or video of your baby while you pump.

Thank you I will try this . As iv always been able to pump now I can’t at all a tiny drip will come out that’s it .

Your boobs and nipples can also change over time - try a different sized funnel/cup if you can :)
