Baby hates high chair

She just stands up in it constantly and it’s obviously not very safe (see also booster seats etc) holding her means I get covered in food. More a rant than anything; her brother was the same, I loved the day he could sit normally at a table!

@mybabyherhighchair
Does the highchair not have harness that goes over the baby's shoulder, rather like a car seat?

mybabyherhighchair · 11/07/2024 18:23

She fights them so much any food is forgotten about so rather pointless. I see babies sat placidly in high chairs out and about …

Have you tried sitting her in it when she's not eating with some particularly interesting toys on the tray?

How is she in a car seat?

jannier · 11/07/2024 18:29

Mine sit at low table from about 18 minths

mybabyherhighchair · 11/07/2024 18:33

Sure but we’re still 8 months away from this!

16 month old DS is exactly the same! Kicks and screams if you even try and sit him in there, so stopped bothering. He eats at a small table now, with his seat that still has a harness, still 50/50 whether he will sit in it or not but it’s better than the chair. Of course sits and eats perfectly well at nursery though! Glad it’s not just us 🤣

TheShellBeach · 11/07/2024 18:35

I always used a harness and straps.
It isn't safe otherwise.

I have and god forgive me the TV. She’s just a tad obsessed with trying to stand and why not stand up when in a high chair. Not dangerous at all 😳

She will tolerate it for five minutes then she’s off. It is a bit frustrating as while I can feed her in other ways I invariably end up looking like a menu.

The point of a high chair is so they can eat though, isn’t it? And if they are just screaming and fighting a harness then that isn’t really achieving the aim!

@mybabyherhighchair "I have and god forgive me the TV. "

I was going to suggest that-but I was scared......🤣

CurlewKate · 11/07/2024 18:48

I don't know if this will help- but my mother was, for some reason very anti high chair. She used to sit babies on her lap to feed them....

DiaryofWimpy · 11/07/2024 18:56

How about sitting her in her car seat for feeding times? It's a tough one.

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/07/2024 18:57

I used a high chair or a clip on chair both with harnesses. If you are all at the table and modelling sitting nicely chatting and eating the clip on type of chair or one that comes right up to the table might work better. When I had 2 tinies who ate their evening meal without parents they sat at a little plastic table on little chairs. The younger one was less than a year old ... but that doesn't work if they want to get up .

Probably a daft question but have you tried just putting the lap harness on? Mine wouldn't have the shoulder ones on, but I got the lap ones on. He's like it with the stroller too🙄 maybe you've hit on on a new product, standing highchair, I'd buy one😆

Mines had the TV on whilst eating since he started weaning 🤭

This works with the pushchair but not high chair for some reason. My older child was the same, both seemed to really dislike high chairs (tried a few different ones.) Luckily it’s a fairly short lived problem as I remember DS was at a small table happily enough at around 18 months but right now it makes for stressful meal times. (She also tries to escape from supermarket trolleys and swings.)
