Changing breastfeed to bottle feed in the night?

Hi all - my son is 7.5 months, been on solids since 5 months and that’s going really well. He eats a lot throughout the day plus 7-8 breastfeeds & a 8oz bottle of formula at bedtime. He is waking anywhere between 3-5am for a feed but I am pretty sure he isn’t actually hungry. I’d love to slowly start weaning that feed and thinking it would be easier to do that with a bottle as I have control over how much he has. Has anyone tried changing from breast to bottle in the nights to try wean? I appreciate most babies can go till 12 months with a feed but he’s a big boy & am very sure he’s waking for the comfort rather than hunger as we’ve had some nights he’s gone till 5:30-6am without a feed.
