13 month old...can't crawl, stand up or walk, should I be worried?

My 13 month old DD does not crawl, pull her self to stand or walk at all. More concerning she is unable to get herself into a sitting position from lying down and unable to lie down from a sitting position, but she can sit really well, but just has to be placed there. She hates tummy time, even though we continue to do this with her regularly. She has just started to spin around on the spot but hasn't worked out how to move backwards and forwards or sideways.

At the 1 year check the HV said they would call in a few months to see if any progress, but I am really starting to get worried. She seems very very far behind all of her nursery and NCT baby friends.

Does she roll over?

I can't remember how long my friend's son took before standing/walking but it was heading towards 18mths. Just wasn't interested and looked like a little Buddha. Completely active little boy and good ice-skater by age 10.

Started crawling at 18 months. She's two now, still hasn't said first word. She's been noted to have a delay and just being monitored now through paediatrics. Been to speech and language and she can sign.

They have found she has hypermobility so believe that was the cause of the delay in crawling and walking. Getting there slowly.

Apologies only just seen this. DD just got up and walked one day at 21 months, then there was no stopping her but she still never got the hang of crawling. Looking back so many people told me she would get there in her own time which she did but it didn't stop the worrying.

I didn’t move much at that age, then bum shuffled and finally walked. I’m now 48 and still happiest sat on my arse!
She most probably will be fine. But I’d suggest going to see the GP
and, as you have private healthcare, you
may as well get a referral. That way, if there is anything going on, you’ll know sooner rather than later and therefore any interventions can start sooner rather than later or, if they think it is better to wait and see, that will be a
more informed decision.

So did she just start walking directly or did she start cruising first?

I ask because my 14 months old has been on the later end of the gross motor skills. He hasn’t started cruising till now.

oakland42 · 02/06/2025 09:12

She started cruising first but wasn’t able to get herself into a standing position until after she started walking so she never pulled herself up. I would place her in a standing position holding on to something like the sofa or a table and she would move along that eventually taking the odd step letting go or going between bigger spaces, then she just started walking around the kitchen one day. After this she then was able to get herself into a standing position herself. It all happened very quickly maybe within a couple of days from first cruising to then walking unaided and standing.
