2 year old distraught when family enter the house

Hi all,

I would just like to see if anyone else's little one does what my two year does or has any advice on how to help him.

Since mid-March his separation anxiety went through the roof. He began clinging on to me or his dad, sobbing his little heart out and shaking when anybody entered the house including family he sees regularly.

Should me or his dad leave the room, he does eventually calm down after 5 or 10 mins and start playing with them. However, when we are there, he won't even entertain the idea of interacting.

He's just about overcome it when my mum comes weekly. I've been showing him pictures of her and getting him to watch her arrive at the window. I did the same again but for his aunty and uncle and he was distraught when they pulled up outside the house and wouldn't even OPEN HIS EYES???? Closing eyes is a new thing.

He's being going to nursery since April and is fine there once I've left. He seems better when he goes to other people's houses than when people come to ours.

Very confused and it doesnt seem to be getting better.

Thanks!

Very strange behaviour.

What if they bring a small treat so he associates their arrival with it?

Has something happened ? Has someone come to the house where an argument or something has resulted and maybe he has heard ? It is very strange behaviour that must have been set off by something 🤷‍♀️

I would not be entertaining this. Just ignore him he will soon get over himself
