Amount of sleep

Hiya all,
My ds is 10 months old, but sleeps like a teenager!!
This morning he woke up at half 10!!
We lie him down to sleep about 7.30 (every night), but sometimes he can be playing in his cot, ie: talkin to himself, for a couple of hours!
Hes normally fast asleep by 9ish!, but he may not wake up until about 9am!!
Are wejust lucky, or should we check with hv? He doesnt sleep that long in the day, about 2 hours, if we're lucky!!

Enjoy!! My DS1 was a nightmare sleeper - but DS2 (now 13 months) is quite similar to yours. He goes down around 8-8.30 (at the same time and in the same room as his brother). they usually 'talk' for about 20 minutes or so and then they go to sleep - both will happily sleep until 9am - and little one has been known to sleep until 10am!!!!

Yep enjoy dd 3yrs goes to bed 7pm and is up 5am we keep taking her back to her room but it is a nightmare, think yourself lucky

Yes, this is your smug mummy moment to use to annoy any parent you don't like. The sluglet is the same. It's regularly 9.30 or 10am before she wakes up. Bliss for all concerned.

Having said that, she starts nursery next week. I'm hoping she gets the afternoon sessions.

DS was like that till he was about 3 .. its glorious isn't it

My ds does this too, all the time. he didn't get up until 11 am the other day, and I enjoyed regaling my exhausted mummy friends with tales of how very rested I felt, and why I felt this rested.

Completely missing out, of course, the fact that he didn't goto slep til 11;45 pm and had spent 2 hours lying in his cot going bbbbrrrrrrrummmmmmm!!

My ds is 21 months old too, so it doesn't seem like they grow out of it.

Most babies sleep a solid 12 hours every night do they? Would you mind having a word with my 8 month old and pointing this out to him?

mine was like that till had a 2nd - now whoever wakes first wakes t'other one!

Your very jammy! mine generally does 7-7.30pm until 6/7am....ho hum...must be her fathers genes....

Your all so lucky with your sleeping children....
In saying that after moaning yesterday that my 21 month son would not sleep till 10 o'clock I've taken some advice frome a friend. The advice was to get him up earlier ( 7-7.30am) and then only let him have an hour max nap during the day, then do the bath,milk bedtime routine as usual about 6 in the evening and then put him on my bed for some quiet rest time to chill him out.
I did this last night,and then put him in the cot, he screamed for about 20 mins and dropped off about 7.10. He slept till I woke him at 7.30 this morning. Tonight I did the same, he was more 'bouncy-bouncy' whilst lying on my bed even though I tried to calm him down with lots of 'shush it's sleepy time', and then I put him in his cot at 7.20 ish, and he was quiet within about 3/4 mins..... Result....He's still ASLEEP!!!

It is amazing. Only a month ago DD (12 months) was hardly sleeping at all - now she sleeps 7/7.30pm to 8.30am on average - this morning I decided to wake her at 9.30am! So grateful as I currently have appalling all-day morning sickness.

What I find difficult (and I'm not complaining ...) is working out a new routine for her. When she has breakfast so late, I'm never sure when to give her lunch and when she should nap - e.g. today after her 9.30 start, I gave her lunch about 1pm, then she went down for her nap about 2.15pm (formerly about 12.30). She's still asleep now (3.30pm) and I'm not sure whether to wake her - I used to give her milk about 2.30, then tea about 5.30 and bed at 7. Worried that if I let her sleep she won't go down at bedtime - and a 7/7.30 bedtime is pretty much the most important part of her routine for me, as it gives us our precious evenings.

How do you structure your day if your little one sleeps late?

Again: I am counting myself very lucky - I know what the opposite feels like all too well ....

Don't worry, my dd used to sleep from 18.30 to 09.00 at about 9 months. hardly slept during the day. now she sleeps (fingers crossed as had an issue with fireworks and new baby brother!) from 07.00am to 06.00am read that at 2 (which is is nearly) they only need 11 hours and 1hr during that day which she does. Just be glad he's not screamming at 4am!

Oh thing's are so wonderful in the sleep department. I feel like a new woman. I had a little blip sunday/monday but my husband has done the bedtime routine this week and my angel has been an angel. It's bliss. I am actually looking forward to doing the routine on thursday whilst daddy is working late, and then he is at his grandparent's this weekend...

DS goes to bed at 7ish, just now in fact and he may go to sleep by 9!
Usually wakes up when mistressmary wakes up, 7.30 onwards.
Just like Bagpuss, when Bagpuss wakes so do the little mice.
I am lucky if he has an hour of sleep a day.
He is 14 months.
No fast rules in the sleep stakes it seems.

I think u r all very lucky my 10 month old thinks that life is 4 living & not 4 zzzzzzz!
