DS's evening routine at the moment goes thusly:

5.45 Tea (takes half an hour)
6.45 BF
7.15 bath
7.45 BF
Asleep by 8

He has started waking early (6ish) and I'm wondering if it's down to hunger, if his tea is too early? He doesn't take loads at the bedtime BFs (I think he is starting to lose interest in them).

So what time would you give tea for an 8pm bedtime?

DD has always had dinner at 6pm, bed and bottle (or breastfeed when she was younger) at 7pm. She's not a great sleeper and a full stomach does help.

That does seem a long time between tea and bedtime. I tried to make tea no more than an hour and a half before bed so dcs went to sleep as full as poss. Try dropping one of the BFs, he make take more if there is only one feed before bad.

my lo's always have dinner at 5/5.30pm so it doeant seem early to me. You need to look at the food intake throughout the day rather than just dinner/bedtime - does he have snacks as well as meals, etc

MegBusset · 10/04/2008 20:10

OK here's the full day's routine:

7 (in an ideal world! can be more like 6-6.30) BF
8.30 breakfast
10 snack
11.45 lunch
12.30-2 nap
2 snack
4 snack
5.45 tea
6.45 BF
7.15 bath
7.45 BF then bed

I split the BF before & after his bath so that he takes as much as possible, he is very distractible when feeding.

My DS has his tea at 4pm and last bottle at 6.30. He still has one at 10pm though too.

Mine have tea 5.00 ish, bed at 7.00 ish. Bf is small (which is probably right at this age, not really a 'feed' needed). Mine wake at 7.00 ish, but do go through phases of earlier waking. Check that she's getting enough food at tea time, but apart from that I don't think 6.00 is particularly early for kids, I know a lot who wake up earlier than that. Mine don't really snack in between meals either, if she seems satisfied with her tea then it may be that she's just an earlier riser. Bad luck
