I feel fucking horrendous, 8m ds, just stared crawling, just got a gate and not put it up yet, went to the loo with him, took my eye off the ball for 30 seconds because older ds (8) was sat with him, next min he fell down the stairs, i chased him down but i just wasnt quick enough, he cryed but nothing like i was expecting, ive seen worse when hes fell back on his bum when he trys to pull himself up. he has a lump on the side of his head but its only small. i feel fucking awful, im such a shit mother, im tired and i fucked up. He's alert, chatting, babbling and blowing raspberries.

Do i take him the drs or A and e? Or just monitor.

Im still shaking, please be kind i know im shit.

All OK OP? x

My daughter did the same at six months and I was beside myself with guilt. Went to a&e where they checked her and said she was fine but to monitor her. They also dealt with my shock and guilt and I calmed down. She’s 22 now and absolutely fine! You’re not a bad mum!!

Debzyrobinson · 06/07/2024 21:58

I would just to be on the safe side, and your not a shit mother, it could happen to anyone, but if I was to your mind at piece, just take him down to A+E

My son fell down at 18 months, only from half way and he had a gash on the back of his head and needed glueing back together.

if you don’t go it can be seen as neglect, they won’t be annoyed at you getting him checked out

Funnywonder · 06/07/2024 22:34

Folks, she HAS BEEN to the hospital. Baby is fine. Just read her posts. It's all there.

He's completely fine, the drs were amazing and we only had to wait 45 mins.

Thanks for the support and kind words

That’s great, please ignore the nasty comments, as you say, if only we could all be perfect!

Nickisli1 · 07/07/2024 08:10

This exact thing happened to me. My daughter was fine, but 7 years on it still gives me the shudders thinking back to it. We didn't go to A & E at the time (there are a few doctors in my family who were able to reassure us)

BeCoolDenimScroller · 07/07/2024 10:22

Awww you are not sh*t accidents happen! I once dropped my newborn down some ( carpeted) stairs and felt horrendous. But apart from both of us being shaken and upset, he was absolutely fine ( now a teen getting 8’s and 9’s in GCSEs so no lasting brain damage)! As someone has already said they are actually pretty bouncy at that age and you are doing the best you can xxx

Are you in the UK? 🤣 at the idea of calling a doctor for advice.

She's taken him to A&E and he's fine btw

@MMAS You don't have children and are clearly being very judgmental towards an already worried mother save your comments for someone else!

Yes I'm in the UK, calling a doctor is fine in my area. One thing you don't do is sit on your arse writing posts on Mumsnet.

I so agree. Why can’t people who have no knowledge of the situation just shut up!

Ilikeadrink14 · 09/07/2024 00:46

There are probably very few mums who have not had a similar occurrence with their children.
When she was about four, my daughter had a nasty fall, banging her shoulder. I comforted her, and she seemed ok, but when her daddy came home and she told him about it, she got really upset and did seem to be in pain, so we took her to A & E. She had clearly been toning things down for me. It transpired that she had a greenstick fracture of her shoulder blade. I felt so bad!
These things happen and you can only do your best. After that, I enrolled in St Johns Ambulance to get first aid experience, and ended up joining them for several years, so some good came out of it.
Typically, my experience wasn’t needed at home after that as no-one hurt themselves!

Take him in. My DS did this as a baby and was absolutely fine. I aged about 20 years though!

Op did that hours later than some/lots would have but still on Friday, when it happened.

Maybe read op's posts first when the thread is pages long already?

I have a job and a life so don't always have time to read every post. Was trying to be helpful. Next time I won't bother.

@SkaterGrrrrl

You can go to op posts, click see all and you only see the ops.
Then skip to the last thing they posted.. Wallah now you know the recent update without having to read the whole thread. Smile
