Newborn poop - CMPA? Warning nappy pic

Hi all

Really hoping for some advice please. My 12 day old has been quite unsettled for a couple of days. She’s been very sicky pretty much since birth. Lots of sick, hiccups etc.

The past few days she’s been very unsettled before a poo and then a bit more relaxed post-poo. However i’ve noticed her nappy is smelling very vinegary and I’ve noticed some mucus in her poo.

i have attached a pic of her most recent poo. Is this normal? Googling vinegar smelling poop suggests CMPA, along with the reflux and being unsettled. Will call HV tomorrow but just wanted to seek some advice in the meantime please 🤞🏻

Commenting to keep up to date on this as really interested to hear what others thoughts are.

My daughter’s poo was like this initially and we were told it’s not CMPA so didn’t get prescription milk for her. I switched to comfort milk (which contains partly broken down cows milk proteins) and she was fine on that although she still had the lumpy bits which I think are bits of undigested milk?

Since weaning, however, and introducing yogurts, cheese and other dairy, her poo went back to being vinegary for a while so I did wonder again if it was her adjusting to more dairy/dairy intolerance.

Thanks so much for replying.

did she have any other symptoms? I’m really hoping this isn’t CMPA but everything seems to point to it so quite interested in understanding why your doctor thought it wasn’t in your case.

which brand comfort milk did you use?

Only other symptom was colic and eczema but I half expected that as myself and partner both suffered since babies.

2 mum friends with similar age babies both got CMPA diagnoses: one had a really deep red face rash (not eczema) and both had really bad colic and very constipated (which is contrary to what google seems to say - everything points more towards runny poo).
One of those babies is 9mo and weaning and has actually been fine having small amounts of dairy with solids (yogurts etc) so likely to grow out of it - which is promising!

We use Cow & Gate comfort milk now. We tried Kendamil, Aptamil and Cow & Gate ‘normal’ milks initially - she seemed to be happiest on C&G so we chose that comfort one.
