Hello, we have just moved to Gartcosh, North Lanarkshire area, and my little one has finished up nursery, he will start primary 1 this summer. I’m looking for fun classes , any sports really but he likes basketball and tennis. And any fun summer camps for his age if anyone could recommend where to search x

It's an awkward age for holiday clubs as lots start from yr1 up, check with the school he will be going to first to see if they allow any holiday clubs to use their premises over the summer, some do and it might mean going to a club with some of the kids who will be in his school at free the summer.

Otherwise look at local private nurseries to see if any of them run holiday clubs and any activity centres - outdoor pursuits, trampolining, national trust type places.

I struggled to find any for my wee one at that stage last yr, all tend to start from p1. She did go to a United sports one in south lan - maybe worth a check if they have branches in north lan.

It's unlikely any clubs would take him unfortunately many don't start until children are 5 or stipulate children need to be in their second year of school e.g year 1 in England. Your best option would probably be a nursery with a holiday club but again they might have age restrictions.

If you're looking for activities rather than childcare (because limited times) Springburn Harriers (Bishopbriggs) summer camps take from rising P1 and are 10-2. My youngest did it last year as a P1 and loved it.

Some of the tennis clubs also do rising P1s in camps.

Jump Gymnastics in Cumbernauld might take rising P1 as well, can't remember for sure on last year

Skiing - we did Bearsden which definitely takes beginners from 4 for their 2 hour morning class only 4-5 year olds, 6+ get 3 hours. Polmont might also be an option.

I've ended up with lots of Bearsden stuff because of work locations although we stay in Kirkintilloch so it might not work for you...

Thank you so much for your replies ladies. Yes it looks like p1 is the right age for most camps etc
I will have a look into your suggestions xx

i found one summer camp which is on for 2 hrs because he’s before p1 age but hopefully he likes it … only thing it’s so expensive £12 a day for 2 hrs … it’s not far from us I will find a name for it x
