How to remove DD (20)'s social media content from porn sites?

lawn · 20/06/2024 11:51

Gentle replies only please, we're feeling pretty fragile.

Yesterday DD's toxic ex sent me a link to a porn chatroom where guys have collected images and videos of DD from the age of 16 up to the present day. This is how we found out she'd been groomed at a young age to do some "camming", and that's the first thing we are processing (and accessing therapy for her to heal from).

We have found the Internet Watch Foundation tool for removing the under-18 content but the old videos or DD are all collected together with TikToks from when she was 18 (account now deleted) and very recent holiday photos of her in a bikini etc from her current Instagram.

My question is, is there any way to get the over-18 social media content removed from these sites as well as the underage stuff? All the resources I've found so far are for nonconsensual sexual imagery, revenge porn etc. This is stuff she uploaded herself, but not as porn.

I realise this is generally a losing battle but at least want to give it a go. Does anyone have any links or experience of this, or know any organisations we can talk to?

I am not a lawyer or an expert or anything.

I am not sure that anything can be done about this, because if she was over 18 then isn't it the case that the social media website owns the pictures?

Maybe this post will give it a bump and someone else can help. Or it might be worth posting on the legal section.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 20/06/2024 18:15

Regardless of age everyone had a right to be forgotten. But think there’s criteria to meet.

StealthMama · 20/06/2024 18:31

Are you saying that other people uploaded her images to the porn site? In which case this is a consent issue, she didn't give consent so it's illegal and the police and the porn site need to be aware.

The ex also has form for stalking and a malicious element if he also posted her images to a porn site without her consent.

So please go to the police.

muggart · 20/06/2024 18:35

I would tell the ex that unless he takes them down you'll report him not just for harassment but also for uploading underage sexual imagery, which they'll easily be able to prove and he'll be charged with being a nonce.

No you own the copyright to anything you post. You can point this out to the site (which she's done) but that doesn't mean they'll remove it

You should be reporting him for stalking, the police take using different numbers when you've blocked them already very seriously. The cyber stalking and revenge posts from when she was a minor will just add to the case. I would definitely report him, even if it's not enough for charges now, if he carries on in any capacity after he's been warned by them he will be deep trouble.

I'm involved in a completely different matter with the police where I'm trying to get them to have a word and 'give a warning' which they don't seem to want to do as I don't want to face the people responsible in court. It doesn't seem to be a thing anymore, in my experience.

Yes other people (not the ex). The underage ones are not consensual so are easier to tackle but the 18+ ones are from her social media, they're the ones I'm seeking advice about

He didn't upload them, he just shared the link with me. But yes we are going to the police

Have you tried: https://stopncii.org/ ?

StopNCII.org is a free tool designed to support victims of Non-Consensual Intimate Image (NCII) abuse.
The tool works by generating a hash from your intimate image(s)/video(s). Image hashing is the process of using an algorithm to assign a unique hash value to an image. Duplicate copies of the image all have the exact same hash value. For this reason, it is sometimes referred to as a ‘digital fingerprint’. StopNCII.org then shares the hash with participating companies so they can help detect and remove the images from being shared online.

To police? As I've said, I don't think posting public social media photos on porn sites is a crime? We've reported the underage stuff

The underage stuff is.

So is the grooming.

Also criminal is the harassment.

You need to go to the police.

mathanxiety · 20/06/2024 19:22

And the sharing/ uploading elsewhere (i.e. not where she put it) is also something the police would be interested in if it's been shared to porn sites.

Tosstyhat · 20/06/2024 19:26

I just want to say that you sound like an incredibly supportive parent. I hope you are able to secure the outcome you want.

If it’s a case of if you Google her name and they show up you can contact Google and request that they remove from the search engine
you have to fill out a form

also you can contact the porn website they have been uploaded to and request that they be removed due to no consent / underage
all porn sites have a page for doing this

Cornflakelover · 21/06/2024 10:20

long term option if you can’t get it removed
change her name legally by deedpool
this means anyone searching her previous name won’t find the images

Google has numerous help sections on how to remove stuff from there
if they don’t do it first time
try again and again using different sections
they are pretty good and often remove stuff within days

https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/4628134?hl=en

also there are plenty of people on fiver who you can get to remove content for you quite cheaply

Remove an image from Google - Google Search Help

If you want to remove an image from Google search results, you need to contact the owner of the site that contains the image. Important: Most images that show up in Google search results are from web

Thanks @Cornflakelover , I hadn't thought of fiverr. She has been contacting the sites and Google on and off for 4 years - sites get shut down but the stuff keeps popping up elsewhere. But we'll keep trying

They can help if the content is on social media sites.

Ring the revenge porn helpline on Monday. They may not be able to directly help but they might direct you in the way of someone who can. Report harmful content (link above) is the sister service of the revenge porn helpline (they work out of the same office) so they may refer you to them or get advice from them on your behalf

Update: IWF require proof she was under age and advise doing this via police so we are going to do that.

Still need help with the over-18 material though and struggling to find a reputable company/organisation that might help.

I work in this area. Unfortunately you will struggle with a reputable service, because once this stuff has been uploaded, it tends to be reuploaded constantly. I’d expect that it’ll be constantly reuploaded to different sites/servers, and so reputable places don’t tend to touch this type of thing.

You can use techniques to try and avoid it. If the files include her name, you can use the Right to be Forgotten, or just change her name. Underage things can be removed, as you’ve seen, although in my professional experience, will likely reappear with the rest.

You could be looking at a pretty lifelong project of removing the removable and trying to remove the rest. I’d really recommend finding her support to live with the fact they may always be findable; and look at ways to minimise impact on career if relevant. It’s a really horrible thing to happen and must feel so violating, but it’s worth keeping it in context for her and reminding her that the vast majority of people will never see them.

lawn · 21/06/2024 10:50

Thanks @YouveGotAFastCar. Does the Right to Be Forgotten only apply if your whole name is used? None of the posts include her surname but her first and second given names are in all the usernames that she used to use.

I was hoping there would be a way to delegate the constant monitoring and removal so that she can move on. She's spent the last 4 years doing this herself and it's massively re-traumatising. Even just visiting the sites and having to view all the other material that pops up is triggering.

We are getting her a new therapist, not sure what more we can do about the trauma and the fact that this stuff has been holding her back and making her hide. She even stayed in a toxic, controlling relationship because his awareness of this material (which he actively sought out during their relationship) gave him a hold over her.
