In-law trouble

My in laws are the first people to moan if we don't see them but the last people to ask how our children are.
If I message my mother in law updates or exciting things our children are doing I might get a smiley face emoji or a "that looks good" if I'm lucky. If I message asking about them I'll get a long reply of how they are but rarely a "and how are you?"
I just feel like giving up but as the daughter in law I know it will be seen as all my fault.

Does your DH keep in touch with them? Personally, I'd leave it to him.

He has never been keen on keeping on touch with them because he feels they are quite arrogant and I think he feels like he's overlooked a lot of the time over his 2 younger siblings. Seems even though he's the oldest he's always been kind of ignored.

I just wouldn't bother. But I wouldn't care what they thought of me.

I think you need to take your DHs lead on this one, they are his parents. If he doesn’t want to make a lot of effort and happy to let the relationship slide into “duty” visits, then so be it.
