Nikcola - what's the question? I have a PhD in Sociology and may be able to help. I'll check this again tomorrow morning.

nikcola · 02/01/2005 22:58

ok here goes this is the question .........

The traditional role of the wife and mother is changing, The growth of the welfare state espishilly (sp) has encouraged women to expect more from life.
How have changing employment patterns and governmnet policies like the working families tax credit impacted upon womens life chances????????????????????????

you might find this article on wftc useful:-

www.lapa.org.uk/Publications/SPIU%20briefing%2016.htm

try putting a google search with:

impact of working family tax credit mother

that brings some useful looking articles up.

hth

FeastofStevenmom · 02/01/2005 23:05

presumably the working patterns would look at:-

1)Job share/better rights for p/t time workers/flexi time

2)24 hour jobs - i.e. night shift jobs like call centres/supermarkets

nikcola · 02/01/2005 23:08

thank you MTS xxxxxxx

Nikcola - MTS's suggestions all sound very useful. What readings have you been set? What are the titles/auhtors and what kinds of issues do they cover?

gothicmama · 03/01/2005 12:00

the family in question by diana Gittens is very good - also mention the role of women as carers this is shown in the community care act where care falls on to the family but ultimatly because of gender stereotypes this means women.

You might find this useful. It is sensibly argued and makes a lot of points that you might want to pick up on in your essay. In particular, I would support the writer's scepticism about how 'liberating' all these changes have really been for the majority of women.

nikcola · 03/01/2005 14:44

thank you im going to have a read through that now xxxx
