How old were your DC when you stopped shutting stair gates?

DS is 21 months and we rarely shut either the top or bottom stairgate now as he is very confident in climbing up and down the stairs - however, my sister was horrified about us letting him 'play' on the stairs.

Just wondered what the general consensus is.

Can't remember precisely, but think around 15 months or so, as she was confident going both up and down by then.
