To find weekends hard parenting alone?

I have just ran out of steam and need to vent.

My DH works very long hours and for reasons I don’t want to go into isn’t available every other weekend to my kids. We (me and the kids) get around 1 weekend day a month with him.

I’ve seen a friend and her child today, my parents. But that was all this morning and I just want to tap out. I very rarely get “a break” as in not being responsible for the kids, I couldn’t tell you when the last time my DH had them for the day or even evening was. Occasionally we’ll get a babysitter and go for dinner. But it’s hard to plan because of his impossible schedule.

Friends always have family time at weekends, I find them harder than the week. I work (although PT) too.

Kids are 3 and 5 and currently in front of the telly and I’m thinking we really ought to
move on and do something else away from a screen but I CBA.

Just looking for solidarity.

I know exactly how you feel. I have 4 kids and my husband works away a lot. It’s exhausting and most of the time I feel like a single mum. Dont beat yourself up about the telly, seriously. They don’t need scheduled entertainment all day every day. Just let them watch a movie and you have a sit down and a cuppa

Thanks @Moglet4 that’s what I needed to hear. I’ve switched it off now and they’re entertaining themselves a bit.

Definitely - during the week everything is set up with an assumption of only one parent but that changes at weekends.
