Newborns skin peel?

Looks like my LO’s forehead has a tiny bit of skin which is almost missing? It might’ve peeled off but looks like the skin around it is thicker leaving a tiny dot of less skin which isn’t as deep.

Is this normal? Only 4 weeks old but skin is a little dry

Normal - newborns do have flaky, dry skin and it does peel off. DD was like a massive steak bake for about 3 weeks, constantly shedding flakes of skin. Thankfully at 4.5yo she no longer resembles a pasty.

Don't worry Smile

My whole baby peeled off. She was overcooked (soaked in amniotic fluid for more than 40 weeks) so when her skin touched the air she started to dry out and peel. It came off in sheets, it was the most amazing thing ever.

Yes, just part of the drying out process after being underwater for 9 months. Ds2 was covered in spots, entire body skin peel and jaundice. Not photogenic, but it cleared soon enough.

Thank you. I can just see almost a little indent of skin of forehead compared to other parts of skin etc?

Unless it’s a slightly different colour as the surrounding areas is dry skin and that’s come off?

Normal

FlangeBoil · 18/06/2024 06:54

OP you seem concerned about that one area. Would posting a close up pic (avoiding showing baby's face) so we can see help? Newborn peeling is normal, but you showing us your area of concern and us confirming if from our own experience that it's normal help?

UpUpUpU · 18/06/2024 06:57

It’s completely normal OP. If you still aren't convinced can I suggest you speak to your health visitor or GP?

@HazelEagle I can't see anything out of the ordinary, but as PP has mentioned, if you are concerned, a call to your HV might be wise, although from experience, this looks totally normal.

Enjoy your new baby Daffodil

Here’s another photo if that helps. Not sure if it’d fresh skin underneath the skin on top (dry) will all come off? HV recommends coconut oil but hasn’t seen LO about it just on phone.

Mt first two babies didn't have this so when my third baby's skin starting to peel I was so worried! I spoke to the HV who reassured me it was normal and to use a gentle moisturiser.

HazelEagle · 18/06/2024 13:45

HV said she thinks its normal and to use coconut oil twice a week after bathing etc

FYI: They told me to use coconut oil on my child too. An hour later she smelled like a rancid coconut! 🤮 I ended up using baby oil instead. No idea why they suggest
coconut oil, it’s disgusting.
