Sulky and negative - how to change?

DS 7, always seemed a bit emotionally immature. He’d improved recently but has a tendency to cry, sulk and moan especially around not getting his way, or if a game doesn’t go the way he wants, losing in sports etc. he’s not naturally sporty either so it’s not a case of needing to get used to it. As he’s getting older it’s becoming more obvious and his friends notice, it’s awkward and probably annoying for coaches. Frustrating for me to get up early and spend half the time there watching him sit frowning, arms folded refusing to play because of perceived injustices.

I’m trying working on ‘growth mindset’ but it seems to be more of a ‘they cheated ‘ ‘I wasn’t ready’ ‘it’s not fair’ type of thing. It’s like he needs to learn to not sweat the small stuff and be a bit ‘tougher’

Any tips?

How about trying this on improving anger management or the Thoughts & Feelings Game?
