Other new born baby cries

I was just in Sainsbury’s and there was a newborn cries in his car seat at the till while mum paid. Everytime I hear another newborn cry I feel very stressed / upset / traumatised. Does anyone else get this? I wondered if normal?

For reference my newborn Was very challenging (she is now a lovely easy toddler - 18 months!!) but Her newborn cries used to really upset me and I still feel slightly traumisted by it all so interested to hear how others feel when they hear other newborns cry. I’m fine with the toddler wail it’s the newborn cry.

also Pre having my own baby I don’t think I’d even have noticed another baby cry 🤣

have a lovely Friday eve.

It gets to me too OP. Like right deep down in your core. I guess it’s just a motherly instinct to protect and provide

I think it’s instinct to be on edge when you hear a newborn crying. It’s not a nice sound (not in the sense of how it sounds physically as such) as it’s psychologically triggering. I guess that’s what Mother Nature intended!

I feel a combination of dread and maternal instinct

Yes it makes me incredibly anxious, and my ‘baby’ is 10 😂

I know someone who swears that hearing a newborn baby cry started off her labour.

But yes, when you hear a baby doing that absolutely desperate cry, when they are almost bleating, you just want to DO something to help it.

Nope, not me. Whenever I hear it I just think I'm glad it's not my problem! (my youngest is a toddler now) I'm very good at tuning out noise from other people's dcs!

Elisabeth3468 · 08/06/2024 12:28

Yes I feel the same. I just want to pick the baby up and settle them. I also had a very colicky screaming newborn /baby until he was about 6 months.

Hi am a new mum my daughter is a week old and is struggling with trapped wind and belly ache I've tried doing the bicycle movements with her legs and rubbing her belly. Is there anything else we could possibly give do for her? Don't like seeing her in pain

HappyAsASandboy · 07/07/2024 11:39

Totally normal for me. Has been the case since I had my first child and I don't think it will go away.
