Bath options for long baby!

DS is only 4.5 months but is already too long for his bath. Just wondered what others have done? Shallow water in the big bath? Bathe together? Bigger baby bath? TIA!

My son was the same, he didn’t last long in his little baby bath. After that, I used to just get in the main bath with him, I found it much easier to keep hold of the slippery little fish!

Bath dam? I can't remember the trade name but it jams in the main bath so you can run a small amount of water in half the bath.

We used the baby bath with my daughter until she was 3! Once she was too long we sat her in it. We did some baths together before she could sit up independently

The ikea baby bath is pretty big we use it for our 99th percentile for height 10 month old. She can sit up in it now so much easier.

Never had a baby bath

Bathed with them or just kind of held them and gave them a quick wash

WhyamInotvomiting · 07/06/2024 16:53

We used the Schnuggle or however you spell it from both of them being about 6 weeks old.

We had a cheapo plastic cradle type thing that went in the main bath, so they could recline. However usually we just got in with them, easier on the back

My house didn't have a bath, so until DD was ~2.5 we bathed her in a plastic storage tub.

My kids still fitted in our baby bath at 5 and they were very tall for age!

Baby baths come in different sizes. Does he not sit up yet and bend his legs?

Mumoftwo1316 · 07/06/2024 17:42

I've always just co-bathed until baby about 18 months old.

Sometimes it's the only chance I get to have a wash myself! So it's two birds with one stone.

@RandomMess no he’s not sitting yet.

I had a baby bath for DD1 but didn’t bother with one 2nd time around. I just ran a shallow amount of water in the family bath and supported her in it. Do you really feel you need one?

Blue2020 · 07/06/2024 17:57

I used a plastic baby bath for ds until he was 11 months old (he’s on the 91st percentile for height and weight). I used to just stick his feet in the air or he would bend them while he was lying in the water, then sit him up. We moved him to the main bath when it got too rediculous, we use a bath dam now so only half the bath has water in it.

You could buy a bath seat? Or one of the mesh recline seats to lie him in the main bath instead? Highly recommend the bath dam though, we picked it up second hand on marketplace.

shardlakem · 07/06/2024 19:06

Larger size shnuggle, mine is 16 months and tall and still fits in it easily but it supports him to sit up sensibly!

Thanks everyone! Lots of great advice and tips. I’m tempted to have a bath with him, although I live in fear of the bath shit 😂Might try just bathing him in our bath first in shallow water, if my back will take it. I’ll definitely look into bath dams too. Thank you!
