Putting my nearly 2 year old to bed

Is it normal that I feel bad putting baby to bed on his own ? We still sleep in the same room, we have kisses and cuddles before bed… then I give him a bottle and he goes in his cot to sleep then off I go to tidy up, wash the clothes etc. he doesn’t ever cry when I put him in his cot and usually gets up in the middle of the night to snuggle with me anyway… I just can’t help but feel bad when I put him to bed on his own. My mum is Asian and says we slept with her until we were about 6/7, she always comments and says it’s not nice… you should let him sleep with you.

Well you've nothing to feel guilty about as he obviously feels secure and happy and has a lovely bedtime routine. He doesn't get upset which shows he feels safe and content.

I would ditch the bottle now though. Give him a bedtime cup of milk before teeth brushing and then just have a cuddle with a bedtime story before he goes to sleep.

I also couldn't be doing with a 2 year old in the same room as me but that's personal preference. Do what works for you. I would say that since you have this nice routine established it would be madness to change it and bring him into your bed. In fact, I'd be working on not bringing him in in the middle of the night either but again, that's a personal choice.

Thats so helpful. I will definitely work on ditching the bottle, I guess I forgot he’s basically a little toddler now! Yeah separate rooms would be nice, currently living in a 1 bed… plan to move soon to somewhere bigger so he will have his own room then.
Thank you!

Get your mum to come over and tidy up and do the laundry etc. so you can go to bed with your toddler.

Either that or tell her to keep her beak out.
