Newborn constantly passing wind

My baby is 6 weeks old, he is formula fed on Kendamil. He farts so much, they are really loud and they stink! Is this normal? He really seems to be in pain forcing them out sometimes too. Usually poops every other day which the gp said was normal as his stools are soft. But should he be farting like an adult?!

Have you tried a different formula?

My super farting first born had a cow’s milk allergy. But also very runny poo. Probably isn’t that, but just mentioning in case.

The son and husband used to take it turns to keep me awake, it did turn back in to mild amusement🤪.

These are amazing. They let all the fart out at once in a rather alarming way, then you have a calmer couple of hours.

He does have quite runny poos and he only goes once per couple of days as well but we were told if it was cows milk allergy he would have severe diarrhoea and be going to the toilet all the time? We’ve swapped from SMA to the Kendamil already as SMA seemed to have the same effect!

Try different formulas, speak to HV or GP if it persists as you may need specialist formula.

Our youngest had a terrible time early on with formula, we settled on hipp organic.

Oh and bottles... which ones do you use?

Have you tried kendamil goats milk formula?

I think we need some of these in our First Aid cabinet in the office!

Not a constructive suggestion I know, but if you insert one of these (gently mind) it might at least bring a bit of fun to the occasion.

Has he been checked for tongue tie? Our baby had a severe tongue tie that was missed for 8 weeks and before we got it correct he would fart CONSTANTLY. Like 25 times in a row. He was bottle fed so it's not just breastfeeding that tongue ties cause issues with as basically he couldn't get a good latch on the bottle so was sucking in air. His farts basically disappeared as soon as we did the snip!
