Caught 8 y/o watching porn

loganfuckingroy · 04/06/2024 19:48

I've accidentally caught my son watching pretty hardcore porn while I reached over where he was sitting on the sofa to pick up a cup next to him. He tried to draw his iPad up to his chest but I pulled it down and saw a video playing. It was Pornhub and extremely graphic hetero porn.

I took his iPad and started searching through his history and this has been going on for a week. His search history started with Googling "naked people" and then he's been watching several porn hub videos every day. He's autistic and loves watching Minecraft/Roblox/robotics videos with his headphones on so I don't suspect. It turns out his dad left his Google account logged in on my son's iPad after showing him something on YouTube and that's how he's been bypassing the content restrictions I've put in place on our Apple/icloud family settings.

We've chatted about it but he's very embarrassed and thinks he's going to be arrested. Husband has taken them to bed, iPad has been removed. I'm just completely at a loss. 8 is so young and he's not neurotypical.

OP posts:

Exposing an eight year old to porn is child abuse. Go read up on safeguarding. FFS it's not the child ,it's your husband who needs reporting and social care need to be involved. Utterly shocking.

Eh? He husband left his Google account logged in by mistake. He didn’t leave pornhub loaded up on the iPad!

My 22 year old son is anti Roblox for children. He doesn't like his nephews playing it. Bit of a minefield reading up

"Is Roblox safe for my child? | NSPCC" https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/online-safety-blog/roblox/

OP@loganfuckingroy I just want to flag this helpful post up as I equally have heard stories about kids being exposed to adult content via Roblox….it’s worth going through every thing he is given access to .

CheeseWisely · 04/06/2024 22:10

Did you read the OP's comments at all?

There are parental controls, but unfortunately a mistake happened where an uncontrolled account belonging to an adult was left logged in on a device, allowing a smart 8 year old to circumvent said controls and make a reasonably innocent search that unfortunately took him directly to very much not innocent results. A mistake. The type that anyone can make, and that the OP came here for advice to rectify.

Do you have any advice or just holier than thou judgement?

OP said this DC had been accessing porn for a whole week on their iPad.

FuckTheClubUp · 04/06/2024 23:00

Somehowgirl · 04/06/2024 22:11

Addressed how? By saying it amounts to the same thing regardless?

The reading comprehension on this thread is shocking. So many posters just wanting to stick the boot it to OP when it was her husband's fault, and an innocent mistake at that.

You just want to give the OP a kick so when it's pointed out that you're wrong you say in a nutshell, "well, it doesn't matter, they're bad parents anyway."

100%!

Early secondary school.

Not all children are the same as yours. Your children’s behaviour doesn’t represent all children everywhere.

I didn’t breathe a word of what happened with my son to anyone, but I posted anonymously on MN for advice. It’s not the sort of thing you talk to friends about, particularly not now society is so unhelpful and judgemental!

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/06/2024 23:03

I'm a teacher. We teach the children how to use iPads and Google as research tool. they are capable of putting something into a search engine that they want to see. I've seen 6 year old boys type "willies" and "boobies" into Google. If Google had existed 50 years ago kids would have been doing the same.

Your school doesn’t have controls in place that prevent young children searching those words? Why?

your school is remiss.

Cluelessfirstimer · 04/06/2024 23:04

FuckTheClubUp · 04/06/2024 23:00

100%!

Agree completely.

This sort of shit is one reason people get PND.

Constantly told to ask for advice on parenting when we are unsure then get fucking shamed and put down when we do.
Can't win!

Mumsnet was surely invented for parents to HELP each other.

OP has asked for advice. OP has clearly not said here's what's happened and I think it was ok.

Fucking makes me sick it really does.

@MrsDTucker

It's the dad. He got access to his porn history, read the comments.

Absolutely irresponsible and shameful behaviour. I'm not sure what OP wants because I'm sure she knows that her partner watches porn and has explicitly said that her partner logged on to watch porn on this iPad and forgot to log out.

That's why the parents are getting blamed and rightfully so.

No, it doesn’t say it was the dad’s porn history. The dad left his Google account logged in, and the son searched naked people. Dad did not leave his prom history up! Well that isn’t what the OP says, so some people are just assuming he did. She never once said the dad was watching porn

Not sure that exists.

I mean we could chop their fingers off if you like

yes there are. It’s very basic.

CheeseWisely · 04/06/2024 23:08

@MrsSkylerWhite There's no control I know of that stops someone typing in a search term.

School restrictions will mean that results are not returned for anything that hits safety filters, but all search terms that are typed in are logged and can be viewed for safe-guarding purposes.

Thus how a teacher knows 'boobies' have been searched for (but results will not have been shown).

Spudthespanner · 04/06/2024 23:08

@Cluelessfirstimer

The OP posted in good faith. Unfortunately for her, she didn't reckon on some of the posters being completely fucking dimwitted.

Hopefully she can filter out the idiots.

Not at 8!

There are not enough eye roll emojis to respond to this, so take this one as representing one billion eye rolls

🙄

We’ve had two 8 year olds. They’re 29 and 21 now. It just wasn’t on either of their radars. Sorry but I don’t get your response. If 8 year olds are regularly searching for porn now, the world is a whole lot more shit than I thought.

Whatever you think, cool as you may be, sexualised 8 year olds is plain wrong.

If you think knowing about porn at 8 years old is normal, you’ve got it seriously wrong.

It’s as if you’re reading and responding to a completely different thread as the rest of us. Can you show me where you read that the OP’s son was ‘searching for porn’ because I must have missed that bit.

For one reason or another, OP’s DS was curious and typed in ‘naked bodies.’ I’ve just done that in Google and the first things that come up are porn sites. Obviously if OP’s DH had remembered to log out of his Google account then this wouldn’t have happened.

I personally don’t think a child needs their own tablet but your responses aren’t even in line with what’s actually happened here

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/06/2024 23:07

yes there are. It’s very basic.

There are controls that stop the search engine, there is nothing to stop children typing bums and willies into the search bar.

Luckily teachers see this a lot and tend to be pragmatic about it.
Parents whose children are not like this tend to be horrified, whilst those of us with delightful curious beasts quickly learn from mistakes and learn to roll our eyes.

Edited

I think people may be thinking this because the boy was watching porn hub videos….is the suspicion that he might have clicked through that easily because of his dads internet search history?? I’ve never tried to access porn and so have no idea how easy it is these days for kids to find it but I know most of my feeds on social media are currently full of bike ads ,the trump trial and cat videos because of what my husband watches online!

What did pop up on the search for "boobies" in a school, out of interest? I'd hope lots of interesting seabirds from the South Atlantic 😆

Do go on... explain to us all how you prevent some kids in a class of 33 from sneakily typing "penis" "bums" "naked ladies" and "poo head" into Google.

Good teaching and classroom management means it doesn't happen too often but yes, it does happen.

What are these magical controls that stop it happening?

FuckTheClubUp · 04/06/2024 23:11

CheeseWisely · 04/06/2024 22:54

@MrsSkylerWhite Did you actually read the OP or just see the title and jump straight on your high horse? The temporary lack of parental controls was a mistake, a mistake that the OP unfortunately didn't know had been made until it was too late.

Congrats on the perfect parenting yourself though 👍🏻

I actually don’t think they’ve bothered to read OP’s posts at all tbh

I don't think she's reading any of the posts. I think during reading comprehension lessons in school she was busy typing "willies" into Google.
